Mom Writes To New York City Ballet On Behalf Of Disabled Daughter - Their Response Will Make You Cry

Natalia Armoza is the mother of Pearl who has cerebral palsy, a disorder that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills. They live in New York City, where a recent workshop was held by the resident ballet company for young children to come and learn ballet. Natalia wished her daughter could partake in such a program but didn't want her to be singled out because of her disability.

So Natalia wrote an email to the New York City Ballet to simply ask if her daughter, and other children like her, could participate in an NYCB workshop -- and she was amazed by their response.

The well-known ballet company is the largest dance organization in America with approximately 90 dancers and over 350 aspiring performers from all over the world. The New York City Ballet is housed in the Lincoln Center, which is where Natalia brought Pearl to watch a recital and got the idea to ask the organization if they would host a workshop for special needs children.

The response was overwhelming -- they booked four lessons for Pearl as well as a cerebral palsy specialist to assist them with the upcoming workshops, which were open to disabled children. Everyone was happily committed to making sure the kids had fun and could be themselves while learning ballet.

"I strangely had little contact in my life with the disabled."

The dance instructors at NYCB wanted to make sure the children were not limited by braces or anything prohibiting them from using their bodies to dance. This was meant to be a day of freedom and expression, but it was also a chance for the instructors to have close interaction with disabled children, which was a first for many of them.

"I think there are so many stigmas that you absorb through culture, through media," said Adrian Danchig-Waring, Principal Dancer for NY City Ballet. Adrian helped instruct the children and oversee the four days of intense ballet lessons.

It was truly a memorable experience for the dancers and instructors, and all thanks to Natalia's love for her daughter. So how did Pearl enjoy her four days of ballet training? You'll have to watch the video below to find out!

The kids clearly had a great time and learned some graceful ballet moves! Sometimes you just need to move and feel free in your own skin.
