In 2018, 36-year-old Jade Devis was hit with some of the best news of her life – followed by the worst. She was just getting over the excitement of finding out that she was pregnant with her first child, when she discovered that she had a lump in her breast.

Jade didn't feel right about the lump, even though doctors tried to push it aside as nothing but pregnancy symptoms. When the lump didn’t go away, Jade pushed for further testing, which ultimately diagnosed her with a form of aggressive cancer.

While ignoring the cancer would have been fatal, the treatment options for the disease were scary for both Jade and her unborn child.

Under the care of Dr. Gayathri Nagariaj of Loma Linda University Cancer Center, Jade began a round of treatment. The first part of the treatment involved removing the tumor and 10 lymph nodes, which then needed to be followed up by chemotherapy, reports Today.

Since chemotherapy can wreak havoc on a baby’s developing organs, Davis was told that having an abortion was the best course of action. Despite the doctor’s suggestions, Davis was staunch in her belief that she wanted to continue with her pregnancy.

Although she had struggled with reservations about being a single mother, hearing that she should terminate the baby’s life seemed to ignite a fire inside of her and she became passionate about keeping her little boy alive.

Despite the risks, Jade began to receive chemo treatments when she was only 25 weeks pregnant. To the surprise of her doctors, she carried her pregnancy full-term and, in July, gave birth to a healthy boy that she named Bradley. When Bradley was born, both their bodies had been subjected to three rounds of chemotherapy.

Giving birth was a huge relief to Jade, who who explains to Today that she had spent the entire pregnancy holding her breath, worried for her son as she battled cancer. Bradley was born at 6 pounds and 11 ounces, and was completely healthy. After giving birth, Jade continued to receive chemo treatments and is now cancer-free, reports Loma Linda University Health.

Although the mother and son had a difficult start, we are sure that their circumstances only worked to strengthen their special bond. Congratulations to Jade on not only being cancer-free but delivering a healthy little boy. This is likely to be a very special Christmas for the little family!
