Mom Of Three Boys From Alabama Is Eager To See If One Of Her Sextuplets Is A Girl

Courtney and Eric Waldrop got a huge surprise when they found out they were having sextuplets. Having three children already, all of which are boys, the pregnancy will make for a family of 11. It all started because they wanted a little more estrogen in the family tree. Will they get a girl?

Meet The Waldrop Family

After suffering from several heartbreaking miscarriages, the couple turned to IVF. They desperately wanted to add a little girl to their three boys, as TODAY reported. They knew that twins was always a slim possibility if the IVF worked, but they had no idea of the miracle in store. It wasn’t long before Courtney’s pregnancy was confirmed, and they were soon looking at ultrasounds showing babies A-F, or sextuplets.

The Albertville, Alabama couple say they’re equal parts excited, nervous, and overwhelmed by the sextuplet pregnancy. Courtney is a first grade school teacher. Her husband, Eric, owns a landscaping business. So, while they naturally worry about the financial hardship of having to buy six of everything and the high risk of the pregnancy itself, the couple say they’re relying upon their faith to get them through.

According to Beaumont.org, pregnancy with multiples increases the risk of complications. The higher the number of fetuses, the greater the risk for preterm labor. Gestational hypertension, strokes, gestational diabetes, and other health problems are also more likely in pregnancies with multiples. It’s also highly likely that Courtney will need to deliver by cesarean birth and that the babies will spend some time in the neonatal ward after delivery.

For now, though, the couple is trying to stay focused on the here and now. This includes a recent fundraiser and gender reveal party thrown by Solitude Baptist Church. A video of the event went viral. It seems the Waldrop family weren’t the only ones eager to see if they’d finally get that girl baby.

The video shows Courtney and Eric in front of six boxes labeled A-F to represent each baby. As the crowd looks on, they light the first box to see what color smoke comes out. It’s blue. Baby ‘A’ is a boy! The next two are blue, too. Will any be pink?

It must be wildly exciting and terrifying to find out life has multiples in store for you when you just wanted one little baby girl. Can you image expecting one, possibly two, and then finding out it’s actually sextuplets on the way?
