As a woman, there is an incredible amount of pressure to look a certain way. From your hairstyle, to how you dress, to how your skin looks. Then there's the big one: your body shape. It seems no matter how hard you work, there’s always negative imagery out there, usually in advertising, that still seems to make you feel bad about yourself. It’s a shame.

However, there has been a major movement by brands across the world and on social media and blogs to support women of all shapes, sizes, and looks. There has been an outpouring of support to brands that are showing in their ads that women of all sizes are beautiful, leading even more brands to adopt the thought process of, “Hey, I don’t have to use size 0 models anymore for my product to be appealing to the everyday woman!” It’s truly been an incredible, powerful thing.

One mother of an impressive five children recently unapologetically showed off her post-birth body to the world through social media channels. The outpouring of support, praise, and kindness she received were absolutely astounding and, frankly, enough to jerk a few happy tears for the mama of five. However, amidst the support she received, some nay-sayers seemed intent on throwing negativity her way, although they didn’t even know her, as reported in The Daily Mail

Brenda was born in Mexico and came to the U.S. several years ago and currently lives in Ohio. Brenda was struggling with postpartum depression after giving birth to her fifth baby. In addition to, and possibly contributing to, her postpartum depression was the fact that three months after she gave birth it still seemed that her body wasn’t bouncing back to her pre-birth shape she had maintained even after having baby number four. She simply didn’t feel comfortable in her own body and was incredibly unhappy.

One day, something clicked in Brenda’s mind. She made a firm decision to stop focusing so much on the emotions she was associating with her body shape and put her focus on reality. That’s when she took to Instagram to post photos baring her belly after having five kids with the text, “the reality is that my body is strong and beautiful…and so is yours.”

Brenda says she took the photos to remind herself that you are beautiful no matter what the shell you come in may look like, especially after giving birth. Brenda now has over 38,000 followers and received an amazing amount of comments supporting her for sharing those photos.

How amazing is it that Brenda boldly showed that inner beauty is truly what matters and that outer beauty is simply the “shell” that the real you comes in? Pass this along to anyone, mama or not, that would gain some joy from Brenda’s post!
