Many are wondering if the video is funny or if it is showcasing abuse. The first comparison of this video can be made to the viral cinnamon challenge from a few years ago. The cinnamon challenge was a trend where people would record themselves eating an entire spoonful of ground cinnamon in an attempt to swallow it without drinking anything. Thousands of videos were posted from around the world on many different social media platforms, and they amassed millions of views collectively. However, the videos did not come without controversy.

As people doing the cinnamon challenge struggle to breathe, some people were afraid of the consequences and thought the videos were distasteful and bad for the health of those who would potentially do the challenge. Others just believed they were harmless and hilarious videos.

Why did his mother, knowing what the outcome would be, allow her son to participate in such a silly trial on camera for the world to see?

In the video, the mother explains what’s going on. She says that her son keeps insisting on tasting cocoa powder and won’t adhere to her warnings that it will not taste good.

She states that she’s going to let her son find out for himself just how gross and bitter the powder will be. Once the boy realizes he’s made a mistake, he stares at the box of powder with regret in his eyes. Tears start falling down his face as he chokes and coughs on the powder. With over 1.6 million views since it’s original post date, the comments have gone rampant with angry and confused viewers.

All of these videos were recorded with the consent of those who participated, much like this viral cocoa powder video. Even though the boy requested to try it, and was not coerced or forced into doing it, it still leaves questions that need to be addressed.

Comments from the video come from people that believe this mother is one of the worst parents they’ve ever seen. They are concerned that the boy could have choked to death, and don’t understand why someone would put this display of bad parenting on social media. Others are questioning if the video showcases child abuse. Many other comments are stating that the mother shouldn’t have allowed her child to do this, no matter how many times he requested to do so.

Not all of the comments are negative, however. Some parents are coming to the mother’s rescue and stating that it’s not child abuse or dangerous, but simply a lesson to help teach the child not to consume powders like this one.
