Mom Leaves Newborn Baby At Fire Station And ‘Safe Haven’ Advocates Praise Her Responsible Choice

Typically, stories about babies being abandoned are tearful ordeals. This story, however, is a little different. At a fire station in Chicago, a new mother made the difficult decision to surrender her newborn. However, instead of receiving hate, the new mom is being praised for her decision. The new mom decided to use what is known as a "safe haven" program which allows mothers to hand over their newborns to authorities if they feel they cannot take care of them sufficiently. The program has understandably been both lauded and criticized, but ultimately the aim was to provide mothers with another option.

This young mom realized that she could not take care of her child as well as it deserved so she made the difficult decision to surrender her child to the fire station.
