While navigating motherhood can be unpredictable for any mom, especially a first-time mom, some milestones and those that are entirely mindblowing are to be expected. In a viral video, a mom named Samantha Mitchell shared that her newborn baby, Nyilah Daise Tzabari, lifted her head out of the blue and crawled across the hospital cot.
Baby Nyilah was caught on camera achieving the milestone, which usually takes the average infant months to reach. Despite being a first-time mom, Mitchell, 34, had years of babysitting experience but had never come across this rare occurrence. Speaking to Kennedy News, she shared her surprise.
“I’ve babysat most of my life and have over 20 years’ experience with children and I’ve never seen anything like this before,” Mitchell said. “I guess I’ve never been around many babies at three days old so there are a lot of nuisances in it but I have never seen a baby like this ever.”
She also explained that the viral video was captured when Nyilah was a mere two-and-a-half days old, making it even more surprising that she could do that. She wistfully recalled Nyilah being able to support her head so early on, making her feel as though she had “never had a newborn.”
Knowing that it would be impossible for anyone to believe that baby Nyilah crawled at just three days old, Mitchell instantly grabbed her phone and started to record for her friends and family.

Unfortunately, Mitchell’s fiancé and Nyilah’s dad, Ofer Tzabari, missed the milestone, but luckily, she had the recorded video. She explained this, saying:
“My mother was the only other person in the room when it happened and she told me to record it,” Mitchell revealed.
“No one would have believed me otherwise. My fiancé wasn’t in the room and I know if I didn’t get it on film, he would not have believed me.”
She also shared the clip on Instagram with the caption:
“I still can’t believe this happened.”
Baby Nyilah was born three weeks late, and after she captured the video, Mitchell adorably cooed to the little one:
“Well that’s what happens when you spend too much time in mommy’s belly.”
Mitchell’s mother, who was with her then, encouraged her to record the video. Samantha even asked her mother whether it was normal for a young baby to lift its own head and start crawling. Her mother told her it wasn’t, especially for a baby as young as Nyilah, who was just three days old. According to Parents.com, babies typically start to crawl between six and 10 months.
Many netizens left comments under Mitchell’s video, with one humorously writing:
“she gonna drive you home from the hospital.”
Another chimed in and joked:
“Usain Bolt’s Olympic record is at risk of getting broken soon :)”
Some thought she was seeking to be breastfed, while others chalked it all up to Nyilah being a “pandemic baby.” Whatever the case, we can certainly understand Mitchell’s utter shock when her three-day-old baby started to crawl!
