When a pregnant woman gets an unusually huge baby bump in the second or third trimester of pregnancy, the first thing that comes to people’s minds is that the soon-to-be mom is probably having twins. Well, no one can blame them since newborns are usually lighter in weight which means they are supposed to be small while their moms are carrying them inside their wombs. But it’s not always the case. Sometimes, it could be because the person woman is having a huge newborn.

One woman from Chorley, Lancashire, gave birth to a healthy baby so massive people thought her baby wasn’t a newborn at all.

When 25-year-old Jody Baines developed a huge baby bump, people who saw it thought she was going to have twins. Yes, it was so large that she had a hard time getting out of bed because of it.

“I was in so much pain by 36 weeks and could feel how big she was. I could see her moving,” she told The Mirror.

It became even more challenging for her when the time for her to give birth finally came, as she had to endure more than a day (a total of 25 hours) of labor.

Baines gave birth to her bundle of joy named Aria Taylor at 12:31 AM on August 6, 2022, weighing 11lbs 9oz (roughly 5.2 kg). Yes, she was a big one. She had to wear the clothing of a six-month-old baby.

“Zero to three-month-old clothes were too small for her so she went straight into three to six months,” she said.

Baines revealed that even the people who saw her baby thought she was a six-month-old baby.

“She did look big and was very heavy when she was born. People said it looked like I was carrying a six-month-old baby around, but she was a newborn,” she told Mirror.

According to Kids Health, most babies born between 37 and 40 weeks weigh somewhere between 5 pounds, 8 ounces (2,500 grams) and 8 pounds, 13 ounces (4,000 grams), respectively. Then again, there’s nothing wrong with having lighter or heavier newborns than the average baby.

But it turns out that giving birth to a big baby isn’t new to her at all. Baines said she previously gave birth to a massive baby in the past – a boy named Theo, who weighed more than 8 pounds.

“We put her on the scales and saw her weight and were like wow. My son Theo was a big baby too at 8lbs 6oz,” she revealed.

Describing what she looked like as a 10-week pregnant woman, she said: “At 10 weeks I looked about 20 weeks along.”

At that time, she and her partner, a 24-year-old shop assistant named Alex Taylor, knew her baby bump would get even bigger in the succeeding weeks.

“At 32 weeks they measured my belly and told me I was measuring three weeks ahead,” she said.

Baines then went on to share that she was told her baby wasn’t really that big – until she finally gave birth to her.

“But at the scan they said Aria was measuring ok and not big. I looked like I was about to pop,” she said.

Despite what she had gone through, Baines couldn’t be more grateful to have her in her life. “But she’s the easiest baby - she’s a dream,” she remarked. “It’s not like having a newborn at all,” she added.
