Mom Gets 6,000 Tumors Removed From Body, Daughter Bursts Into Tears At Transformation

Back in 2018, plastic surgeons Dr. Andrew Ordon and Dr. Ritu Chopra helped removed over 6,000 small tumors on Libby, who had neurofibromatosis, and it changed her life.

For Libby Huffer, her personal appearance had been a source of pain for years. She has had to receive that most dreaded confirmation from a doctor: It’s a tumor. Not only that — she had thousands of them.

Libby suffers from a condition called neurofibromatosis. This is a genetic condition that causes tiny tumors to form around nerve tissue. Luckily, the tumors are normally benign. Unfortunately, living with this condition is a nasty process.

As she explained in an interview on The Doctors, at the age of five, Libby was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis. The tumors did not appear externally until she was a teenager. She was tormented by kids at school and the slightest touch, such as a hug, caused excruciating pain. She was so used to being called lizard breath that she shortened her name from Elizabeth to Libby because her very name caused her emotional pain.

The treatment for this condition is called electrodesiccation. Once the tumors are removed, the skin can be smoothed by a CO2 laser. However, each treatment costs five figures, and Libby would need several of them due to the number of tumors covering her body.

Libby had undergone several treatments before she appeared on the hit TV show The Doctors. Then the specialists offered to manually remove her remaining tumors. The treatment ended with a professional makeover.

The most heartwarming moment of the show came when Libby walked onto the stage after her makeover. Her daughter was in the front row of the audience. As her mother walked across the stage, she could not contain her excitement and amazement. She was in tears, exclaiming over the difference in her mother’s appearance.

Libby says that the years of being tormented about her looks took an emotional toll that is not yet healed. While there is healing still ahead of her, she has a loving daughter at her side to support her through the process. And while her daughter always loved her, regardless of how she looked, she is thrilled for her mom’s new lease on life.
