By and large, most people in this world are good, caring individuals. Occasionally, however, people stray from the right path. Either because of greed or desperation, people sometimes choose to hurt others to get what they want. Back in 2016, a woman learned that a Starbucks barista stole her debit card and chose to get even with her.

Speaking with reporters from Inside Edition, Juana Martinez, a proud mother of three, said that she got a text from her bank about a suspicious purchase charged to her account. Someone had used her debit card to purchase $212 worth of groceries from a nearby store in Los Angeles. Juana immediately suspected that the thief was a Starbucks barista who had served her the day before.

Juana told of how the transaction at Starbucks appeared suspicious from the get-go as the barista had to take her card into the back of the coffee shop, claiming that the register was out of receipt paper. Having worked in retail before, Juana knew that no cashier would ever take a customer’s card with them if they had to go to the back of the store.

Juana called the supermarket to get a description of the customer who used her card and confirmed that it was, in fact, the Starbucks barista. With her husband and kids in tow, Juana was determined to expose the barista’s duplicity to her fellow employees and the world at large. Going to the café’s drive-thru, Juana confronted the barista as her husband filmed the scene.

A visibly angry Juana told the 19-year-old barista that customers "come to Starbucks for coffee, not to get robbed". The young mother also told the barista that she had stolen food out of the mouths of her children. The barista was apologetic to Juana, pleading with her not to press charges.

Juana’s video of the confrontation soon became viral, garnering over two million views on YouTube. In a response to questions from KTLA News, Starbucks says that the woman was fired from her position as a barista. The coffee megachain says that the teen’s actions were absolutely unacceptable and that they would support any investigation by law enforcement into the incident.

Juana says that she does not plan on pressing charges against the 19-year-old, feeling that the shaming the teen received online was a fitting punishment.

What do you think of Juana’s story? Do you agree with her decision to not press charges against the barista?
