A mother's love cannot be matched by any other type of compassion or affection. Mothers are often willing to perform the most incredible feats for their children. While we may think that a mother's love is restricted to only human children, this story is a great example of the strong bonds between animal mothers and their children.

Mom cat Scarlett and her kittens were squatting in a building when it suddenly caught on fire. Without thinking twice, she immediately leaped into action and begun running in and out of the fire to bring her kittens to safety.

In a family, the mother often gives her all to her children and puts all of her efforts into doing so with the hope that they have the happiest life possible. However, this care is often unacknowledged by her children who receive her care until they have families of their own. The mother is driven by maternal instinct, something not only found in humans but animals as well.

Scarlett is a gorgeous, 9-month-old cat from Brooklyn, New York. One tragic incident changed her life forever shortly after she gave birth to a litter of kittens. While the small family was seeking shelter in a building, the surrounding area caught on fire. Scarlett immediately knew that she had to act before her babies were lost forever. She did something unimaginable for an animal.

She ran in and out of that building nearly 5 times to bring all her kittens to safety, reports Reshareworthy. Running through the fire that many times was incredibly dangerous and her heroic efforts nearly cost her her life. Her story was immediately taken to the news and went viral. Since the rescue, she has been the face of plenty of new books and fundraising campaigns.

The fire that started it all was soon quenched by the New York fire department. The home where Scarlett and her kids were squatting in was a "crack house." Police officers believed that there may have been plenty of leftover garbage in the home. When the firemen reached the scene, they were surprised to see Scarlett clinging onto life as she brought her last kitten to safety. Her eyes were shut and blistered while the rest of her body was thoroughly burnt.

Somehow, the pain had not registered in her brain as she was too focused on saving her babies. After the rescue, she touched each kitten with her nose to make sure she had saved all of them. When she was done counting, she collapsed and could not take any more. The trauma she had experienced was finally taking its toll on her.

Thankfully, most of her kittens survived. Although one did not, the other kittens were rehabilitated and adopted. Scarlett was put up for adoption as well, however, the trauma she had experienced meant that she would need special care. According to Reshareworthy, a woman who was used to caring for animals with special needs adopted Scarlett.

Scarlett passed away in 2008, but while she is gone, she continues to serve as an inspiration for mothers and children everywhere. Before she perished, she cared for her kittens as long as she could. However, even she needed a rest. Her injuries were fatal, but thankfully with surgery, she was able to be kept alive for quite some time. Scarlett suffered PTSD for the remainder of her life.
