Mom Can't Afford Stuffed Sea Creature For Son's Birthday So She Makes Him One & The Internet's Responding

Everyone deserves to be spoiled a little bit on their birthday and hope that all of their dreams and wishes will finally come true. For children, their birthdays can be especially magical as they are usually given a bountiful amount of toys, games, and other amazing gifts. Unfortunately, not every parent has the financial means to buy their kids everything that they want, so they need to find more creative ways to make sure their children still have the best birthday possible.

One mother put her sewing skills to the test when she decided to make her son the only gift he really wanted. All her son wanted for his 5th birthday was a manta ray stuffed animal, but she sadly did not have the financial means to buy one for him. Instead, she took one of her son’s old blankets and converted it into the toy of his dreams — a hand-sewn manta ray stuffed animal.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was made out of love, and it made the young boy happy, so the mother decided to share her hand-crafted toy with the users on the Reddit r/povertyfinance forum on Aug. 1, 2021. The forum is geared toward giving personal finance advice and tips to individuals who are financially challenged. 

The mom’s post instantly blew up, tugging at the heartstrings of people from all over the world. She could never have expected the internet to act in such a kind, selfless way. Fortunately, there were more surprises in store for this kind-hearted mother and her adorable son.

Posting to Reddit on Aug. 1, 2021, a user by the name of WildfireSmile shared a toy that she had hand-sewn herself. She explained that her son wanted a manta ray stuffed animal for his 5th birthday, but she couldn’t afford to buy one. Instead, she took one of his old blankets and converted it into a cute toy for the young boy.

Reddit users loved her creation and showed their support in the comments. One user said, “I love it! He’s lucky to have you.” Another user commented, “It’ll be a beloved stuffy that his parent went out of the way to create for him. I bet he’ll keep it forever.”

Redditers wanted to do more for the family, though, and WildfireSmile shared the kind deed that Reddit users did for her family in a YouTube video on Aug. 12, 2021. “I posted on Reddit about making my son a stuffed manta ray by hand since we were too broke to buy him one,” she wrote in the caption. “Redditors from all over the world proceeded to send him all sorts of stuffed manta rays and other sea animals giving my ocean obsessed son his best birthday ever.”

The video showed WildfireSmile’s 5-year-old son sitting on the floor with all of his new toys scattered around him. He grabbed a few and put them in a pile before pulling the stuffed animals close to his chest and happily giving them all a big hug. It’s clear the kindness and selflessness from several strangers on the internet really made this young boy’s birthday the best one yet.
