Mom Arrested After Attending School As Her Teenage Daughter To Prove A Point

Many parents will do anything they can to make sure that their children are safe. For one 30-year-old mother, she took this state of concern for her daughter’s safety to the next level by proving just how easy it is for someone to get into her kid’s middle school. Casey Garcia from San Elizario, Texas, was even arrested in June 2021 for her demonstration but did so to prove to the school that they need better security.

Posing as her 13-year-old daughter, Garcia made her way to a middle school in the San Elizario Independent School District. She did so to see if she could make it the entire day without anyone noticing that she wasn’t actually her daughter and was, in fact, a 30-year-old woman. She even ate lunch without her mask on, and still, no one noticed at that point.

Surprisingly, Garcia didn’t get caught until the seventh period of the school day. Garcia is only 4 feet and 11 inches tall, making it understandable why people may not have viewed her as out of place, but still proving that no extra precautions were taken to ensure she was, in fact, a student.

Garcia later uploaded a YouTube video explaining her motive behind spending the day at the school and talked about how nervous she was the entire time she was there. However, she stayed to show that it was possible for someone to do so and that she didn’t even feel like an individual to some of the faculty and staff. She was simply just another person in the classrooms, unbeknownst to the teachers that she wasn’t actually a student.

Garcia posed as her teen daughter to prove to the school just how easy it can be for someone to sneak into the building and on the campus grounds, showing that a dangerous situation could potentially occur if they don’t increase their security measures.

According to Yahoo News, Garcia was arrested at her home by a school resource officer. She was arrested on one count of criminal trespassing and one count of tampering with governmental records, as well as on an unrelated traffic warrant. Her bonds totaled $7,908.

In her YouTube video, Garcia explained that she dyed her hair and used skin tanner to pose as her teenage daughter. After she was asked for her ID number at the school, she signed in and was allowed inside. No one noticed that she was actually a parent until the seventh period of the school day, according to Yahoo News.

“I did this to prove a point,” Garcia said. “I proved I could get through the public school system.” Her motivation behind posing as a student and trespassing onto the school’s ground was to show just how much the school needed to up its security measures. “I’m telling you right now, we need better security at our schools,” Garcia said. “This is what I tried to prove.”

The mom has since received backlash for her actions but stood by her choices, explaining that “there have been one too many mass shootings in schools.” Garcia added, “I exposed the dangers of our schools and I am trying to protect my children and yours… Let’s make this a change.”

Direct Confrontation With Teachers

When talking about her experience in the actual classroom, Garcia stressed that even when she was the only physical student in the room, teachers weren't paying attention. According to Yahoo News, Garcia said:

"The teachers were so preoccupied with the students that were online that they weren't paying attention to the students that were there physically."

In a direct confrontation with one of the teachers, Garcia explained why exactly she did the bold experiment:

"I think the deal breaker for me was actually walking in and posing as a seventh-grader. I mean, I'm no spring chicken, but it wasn't hard. And I made it to all seven periods, until the last teacher, she was female, and she said, 'Julie, can you stay after class?' And I said absolutely. She looked at me, and she (said), 'You're not Julie.'"

Garcia replied:

"'No, I'm not.' I took off my mask, I took off my glasses, and I said, 'No, I'm not Julie. I'm Julie's mom.'"

When the teacher asked why, Garcia was very direct in giving her the reason, as she said:

"I said for a social experiment. I wanted to see if I could make it the entire day without anyone noticing. I'd say up until seventh period; I think that's a very long day for a 30-year-old."

Although Garcia declined to comment on which school district she attended, she did remark that she apologized to the school for the way the experiment escalated and praised the staff. She said:

"I'm sorry that it had to be that specific school district. I am very sorry. They're all wonderful people. The principal is the nicest person I've ever met, and I'm sorry that it had to be you."
