Mom Applauded For Explaining Why Working At The Office Is Easier Than Being Home With Her Kids

The COVID-19 pandemic has allowed a lot of people to work at their own convenience through work-from-home setups. For those who dreaded going to the office, working from home was the better choice, making them more productive and happier – not to mention saving money from the daily commute. Moms, for one, benefitted from working from home because it gave them the chance to take care of their children while doing all the necessary tasks at hand. Then again, there are also people who missed going to the office, particularly those yearning for human interaction. Others, on the other hand, simply wanted to take a breather because of the many possible distractions at home.

The latter has mostly been true for one mom from Melbourne, Australia, named Sarah Torresan, who took to TikTok to share why working at the office is easier than staying at home with her kids. She made the statement as she answered a question that said: “Does the parent who works outside the home need more sleep?”

"If I had a choice between staying at home with the kids or working after a rough night … I would choose a work day EVERY TIME,” she wrote in the caption of the video she posted on TikTok.

Torresan said she believes “going to work is so much easier than staying home with kids.”

"I feel like I’m qualified to speak to this because I have both working days and stay-at-home mum days,” Torresan said in the video. "I want to tell you something that the working parent probably doesn’t want stay-at-home parents to know.”

Torresan said one of the things she loves about going to work is the commute which she said allows her to listen to some music or podcasts.

One other thing that she loves about going to work is the chance to grab some coffee while walking on the streets through the city. She also said having conversations with other people in the office gives her the chance to use parts of her brain that she said she hasn’t used for quite some time. On her way back home, she gets to listen to more of her favorite podcasts and music.

While Torresan admitted that going to work makes her miss her children, she also said it gives her reason to be excited to go as she couldn’t wait to see them.

Meanwhile, staying at home gives her days without having what she described as “normal human conversations.”

She added that staying alone barely gives her time for herself, like making a cup of coffee or sitting down, because she always does things for other people.

“From the second you open your eyes in the morning, until you close them at night, you are on. You are putting out fires over the most insanely irrational things,” she said.

"It’s constant conflict. It’s constant everyone else’s needs. You’re being yelled at for things, it is all about what you need to do for someone else,” she added.

Responding to the question about who gets to have more sleep, one person said: “The parent at home needs more sleep. Yes the other parent may work a more physical job but they get a full night sleep every night.”

The mom replied: “There needs to be some level of fairness around it I think.”

Meanwhile, a lot of people agree, saying they consider their 9-5 job as their “break” from mommy duties.

“Monday-Friday 9-5 is like my holiday,” one person commented.
