Minnesota Man Sets Hair-Raising Guinness World Record For Tallest Mohawk Hairdo

Few things are more "punk rock" than a mohawk. But how about a mohawk that breaks world records? As you're about to see, Joseph Grisamore of Park Rapids, Minnesota broke the Guinness World Record in 2019 for "tallest full Mohican Mohawk" with a jaw-dropping hairdo that you won't soon forget. Grisamore's achievement will be featured in 2021's World Record book.

You've heard of Guinness World Records, but did you know that they actually have an award for the world's tallest mohawk? A Minnesota man named Joseph Grisamore set the record with a mohawk that measured 3.5 feet tall (or 42.5 inches, to be precise), according to Guinness World Records' website. That's half the size of a human being! This record was impressive enough, but Joseph was determined to beat it. And so, he went on a mission to grow out his hair and style the biggest mohawk that the world had ever seen.

Unfortunately, he couldn't use the hair that had already broken the world record, as it had become too dreaded, according to a Guinness World Records article on the subject. So he cut it all off and started over. How long do you think it took him to grow his hair out again? A year, maybe? Two?

Seven years! That's how long it took him to grow his hair out again.

Imagine going seven years without getting a single haircut. Your hair just gets longer and longer, and that makes it increasingly difficult to manage. After a while, you might be tempted to just shave it off and give up already. But Joseph Grisamore was patient. For seven years, he grew out his mane until it was nearly four feet long: the perfect length to break the world record.

A record-breaking hairstyle that wasn't accomplished easily

Of course, it wasn't enough to just grow out the hair — it had to be styled into a mohawk before it qualified for the world record. And styling a four-foot-tall mohawk is a lot harder than styling a traditional one. Fortunately, with the help of the hair stylists at Family Hair Affair, Joseph was rocking a record-breaking look in no time. It's so huge, you can barely fit all of it into the picture!

Before he took back the mantle, another man with a giant mohawk had broken the record he set previously: Eric Hahn, a resident of Omaha, Nebraska. Fortunately, Eric was a good sport about it and congratulated Joseph on Facebook. He pointed out that it's incredibly hard to style a mohawk that tall, reminding people that this was a massive accomplishment even if it seemed silly. He also said that only four people in the entire world can call themselves record-holders, making Joseph part of an elite club.
