A few years ago, David Glasheen lived an entirely different life as a stockbroker and had millions of dollars to his name. He lived the life many only imagined.

Unfortunately, when it decides to rain, it pours. Things suddenly took a turn for the worst, and in 1987, David lost everything, including his wife. Glasheen relocated to a remote island shortly after and has lived there ever since.

With life taking a totally different direction, David Glasheen had the chance to give up or keep his head up and continue soldiering on. He took the latter. The former millionaire told ABC News:

“I want a different life. Outside the vicious circle that pressures me to make more money.”

He decided to relocate to a beautiful, remote, and lonely island located in Northern Australia, on Far North Queensland’s Restoration Island. David decided to focus on himself and his character growth away from the chaotic world.

He brought along his girlfriend, Denise, to the island. They had a fairly good time there, where David states Denise was his main source of support during the adjustment period.

However, Denise had to return to civilization to give birth to her first baby. According to David, the island’s isolation and remoteness wouldn’t be ideal for the newborn, and that’s why he had to send Denise back to Australia.

These changes would leave David Glasheen alone on the island in the company of his dog. From living a life full of earthly riches, the former millionaire now lives on a remote deserted island with a few necessities to his name.

He shocks many for his ability to accept his current situation and lifestyle after coming from a life full of riches. Today, he spends his time at the island in the company of two mannequins, an internet connection powered by solar energy, and even a bar. David spends part of his time brewing beer thanks to an imperfect recipe that he hopes to polish over time.

Glasheen literally goes back in time where man gathered and hunted. He often obtains food through fishing and collecting fruits from the island. He cites that his most valuable assets on the island are stones to create fire and a kitchen knife.

According to ABC News, whenever he is need of supplies, David uses a boat to travel to a market in the nearest town center at Cairns. Normally, he’d get canned food, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and personal effects to ensure that he maintains personal hygiene and stays alive.

Away from human interaction and traffic such as can be found in cities, the former millionaire admits that there are times when lonely moments hit him hard. However, this doesn’t stop him from continuing to live a calm and stress-free life on the island. He’s done so for more than two decades, and he plans to continue exploring the island for the rest of his life.

This is so inspiring from David Glasheen, the former millionaire who couldn’t let life beat him to the ground. What do you think about his relocation and new life? Would you do it if your life changed like his did? Feel free to send this piece to your loved ones and remind them that money isn’t everything according to this once upon a time millionaire.
