Millionaire Catherine Zeta-Jones ‘Very Happy’ To Take The Train

Catherine Zeta-Jones is a Welsh actress who has been a prominent figure in Hollywood for over three decades. Born on Sept. 25, 1969, in Swansea, Wales, she grew up in a working-class family with her parents and two siblings. Zeta-Jones showed an early interest in the performing arts, and by the age of 10, she was studying dance and performing in local productions.

At the age of 17, Zeta-Jones landed her first professional role in the British musical “42nd Street,” which led to further work in British television and theater. In 1990, she made her feature film debut in the French-Italian movie “Les 1001 nuits” and soon after, she became a regular on the British television series “The Darling Buds of May.”

Zeta-Jones’s breakthrough role came in 1998 when she starred opposite Antonio Banderas in “The Mask of Zorro.” Her portrayal of the feisty Elena won critical acclaim and established her as a rising star in Hollywood. She followed up her success with roles in the crime drama “Entrapment” and the romantic comedy “America’s Sweethearts.”

In 2002, Zeta-Jones won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as the ruthless Velma Kelly in the film adaptation of the musical “Chicago.” She also won a Bafta Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role. The success of “Chicago” propelled Zeta-Jones to the A-list of Hollywood actresses, and she went on to star in a series of high-profile films, including “Intolerable Cruelty,” “The Terminal” and “No Reservations.” 

In recent years, Zeta-Jones has continued to work in film and television, most notably in Netflix’s runaway hit, “Wednesday.” Yet, despite her A-list Hollywood star status, Zeta-Jones isn’t averse to roughing it out by taking public transport.

Outside of her career, Zeta-Jones, 53, is married to actor Michael Douglas, 78, and the couple has two children together, Dylan, 22, and Carys, 19. She is also the stepmother of Michael’s first child with his previous wife, Diandra Luker. Zeta-Jones and Michael have been married since 2000 and faced their fair share of ups and downs in the public eye, but they remain a strong and devoted couple.

Zeta-Jones opened up to Wall Street Journal about the factors that keep the foundation of her marriage so strong with Douglas, and interestingly, it is simple enough: “First of all, we have a lot of fun together,” she said as per People. It is, after all, the simple things that made the biggest difference. Zeta-Jones also addressed the age gap between the two of them, which has often been the fodder for many tabloid stories over the years. 

“My husband is 25 years older than me; that’s not a secret. With any relationship, it wouldn’t be normal if there weren’t any ups and downs,” Zeta-Jones added. “The constant is love and respect. We’ve never, ever lost our sense of humor, and we enjoy each other’s company.”

While the two-decades-long marriage has had its fair share of challenges, from Douglas’ cancer diagnosis to a temporary split in 2013, the pair have always found their way back to each other. 

On Valentine’s Day in 2023, she shared an adorable clip of her and Michael looking all glammed up and dancing with their kids, captioned “You can take the girl out of Swansea…” However, she traded the glam and went back to her humble roots a few days later in a clip that has to be seen to be believed.

On Feb. 21, 2023, Zeta-Jones shared a clip of herself making her way to wherever it is that A-list actors go. However, she surprised everyone when it turned out she was taking the London subway to get there!

Dressed incognito style in a large pair of sunglasses, a hat and a scarf, Zeta-Jones happily explained her situation in the video.

“When you’re the only one on the Tube and you’re very happy,” she explained before panning the camera around her to show the empty train car. “London, just me, on public transport,” she added in the post captioned, “Tube Time! London Transport!”

Throughout her career, Zeta-Jones has proven herself to be a versatile and talented actress, capable of delivering powerful performances in a wide range of genres. Even though her work has earned her a net worth estimated at $150 million, Zeta-Jones was still happy enough to hop on a train, something her fans have lauded her for.

“OMG! Imagine being on the tube and sitting opposite you is Catherine Zeta-Jones! I’d probably forget to breathe and be totally speechless with how shook I would be,” one fan wrote.

Another said: “When you can have anything you like in life, sometimes you just want to be anonymous and just re-live those early days of youth when you were just starting out ❤️”

“Love it😍Bet it brings back memories for you..when you were working in London West End😍❤️” another comment read.

While many sung the praises of the star’s humble ways, many others were left puzzled as to how she managed to find an empty train car on the London Underground. One follower wrote:

“Love that, not everyday you get one to yourself on the tube.😀”
