On January 16th, 2019, musicians, celebrities, and fans alike all crowded into Los Angeles’ indoor arena, The Forum, for a five-hour tribute concert to fallen rocker Chris Cornell, whose suicide shook the music world back in May of 2017.

The concert, titled I Am The Highway, was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and featured performances by Soundgarden, Metallica, Ryan Adams, and the Foo Fighters. Celebrities like Brad Pitt and Josh Brolin joined in to introduce the musical acts, which included further performances by artists like Fiona Apple, Miguel, Adam Levine, and Miley Cyrus.

Cyrus’ initial introduction reportedly caused a “somewhat puzzled response” among the crowd, as noted in live updates from the event that were posted online by the Ultimate Classic Rock radio show.

But her strong vocal performances that night won the gathered crowd over, with Cyrus lending her voice to renditions of “Two Drink Minimum,” a Cornell song from 2009, “Wave Goodbye,” a 1999 solo song from Cornell, and “Say Hello 2 Heaven,” a song written by Cornell for his and Stone Gossard’s early-90s band, Temple of the Dog.

Several Instagram posts from that night chronicled Cyrus’ movements and performances. The first photo was of Cyrus, standing beneath a sign emblazoned with a pop art, Andy Warhol-inspired reproduction of Cornell, himself.

Cyrus’ own named was typed out beneath it. That post bore the caption of “Chris Cornell Tribute Concert,” with several heart-emojis trailing the simple text. Another post included video of Cyrus’ “Say Hello 2 Heaven” performance, with a lengthier captioned included, this time.

“Say Hello to Heaven… had a heavenly experience with you tonight, Chris,” Cyrus wrote. “We felt you and heard you… your words and spirit filled the room… there was an overwhelming feeling of so much love… we miss you deeply… tonight was an honor… #chriscornelltribute.”

A clip of Cyrus singing “Wave Goodbye” was also posted to the site, which showed the young singer switching out of the black, flowing pants, platform heels, and Chris Cornell sweatshirt that she wore, for the rest of the event, and into a blue Alexandre Vauthier dress, which sparkled brightly throughout that singular performance.

What do you think? Did the concert and Cyrus’ renditions of Cornell’s songs count as a fitting tribute to such a famous rocker? Let us know in the comments, below! And pass this video on so others can enjoy her performance.
