During her time as a contestant on The Voice, Janice Freeman didn't hide her critical health condition and spoke openly about her financial problems. While she was in remission from cervical cancer, she also had to deal with a chronic autoimmune disorder called lupus for which so far no cure has been found.

After her blind audition on the 13th season of The Voice, Janice chose Miley Cyrus as her coach. Miley was more than excited to have Janice on her team. During their time on the show, Miley and Janice build a strong professional relationship and improved Janice's musical skills. But their relationship wasn't only professional, they also bonded on a personal level and became close friends.

Miley was Janice's mentor and her number one cheerleader on the show. But Miley didn't only support Janice with her musical career, she also helped Janice's family. With Miley's support Janice, her husband, and their young daughter were able to find permanent housing. The superstar took care of their deposit and also covered their rent for the first 6 months. That way, Janice was able to pick herself up again and start anew.

Unfortunately, pneumonia and a blood clot caused Janice to pass away in March at age 33. Miley Cyrus was devastated about Janice's death. At the memorial service, Miley wanted to honor her beloved friend by dedicating a song to her. But she wasn't able to get through her performance and burst into tears.

According to People Miley explained: “I had planned on singing a song for her, ... but just losing her is too much for me, so… my dad’s gonna take care of this for me.”

Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, took over for Miley who was just too overwhelmed by the loss of her dear friend. He performed a soulful rendition of “Amazing Grace,” but Miley pulled herself back together and was able to join her father eventually. Together they paid a heartfelt tribute to Janice!
