Miley Cyrus and Jimmy Fallon get together to sing "Islands in the Stream," a song by country legends Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.

"Islands in the Stream" was originally written by the Bee Gees who had actually planned it to be a R&B tune sung by Marvin Gaye. In the end, however, it was country musician Kenny Rogers who fell in love with "Islands in the Stream" and started to work on the song with the Bee Gees.

But while they were recording the tune, Rogers admitted that he was simply not satisfied with the result of the work so far. According to Billboard, one member of the Bee Gees, Barry Gibb knew exactly what was missing, as he said: “We need Dolly Parton.”

Parton was up for the challenge and joined the others in the studio and to Rogers, the song was “never the same” since then, according to Billboard. The two singers’ totally different voices breathed new life into “Islands in the Stream” and turned the duet into a huge success.

The song actually became one of the few country songs that ever made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Platinum after more than 2 million physical copies of the single were sold.

But the duet didn’t only boost the country singers' careers but also marked the start of Parton and Roger’s year-long friendship.

Parton was heartbroken as Rogers recently passed away in March 2020 saying, “I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend.”

Their wonderful duet inspired so many people over the years, two of those being Parton’s famous goddaughter Miley Cyrus and talk show host Jimmy Fallon. The two entertainers got together in 2017 to recreate the original performance of "Islands in the Stream" by Parton and Roger’s.
