Microchip Implant Lets Lost Dog Reunite With His Owner

While some people see lost dogs wandering around and simply pass by, others take time out of their day to get those pets back to their concerned owners. Allison Dunbar decided to take action when she saw a tiny dog crouching timidly underneath a car, and microchip technology enabled the dog’s owner to be located quickly.

The car was parked on a busy street, so Alison was afraid that approaching the dog could have a devastating outcome. The last thing that she wanted was for the dog to bolt into middle of the road and get hit by a car. She decided to reach out to Hope for Paws, a local animal rescue group, for help.

When a trained worker from Hope for Paws arrived, he tried to lure the tiny pup out from under the car by tossing tasty snacks close to its hiding place. The dog was unresponsive to these efforts and continued to cower in fear under the car. The Hope for Paws worker then decided to place a protective temporary fence around the car so that the dog could not bolt into the street. After the fence was in place, he was able to reach under the car to place a leash around the dog’s neck. Rather than pull the leash and risk injuring the dog’s neck, he placed gentle pressure on the leash while talking soothingly to the dog.

Eventually, the dog emerged from underneath the car. The next step was to find who this adorable dog belonged to. The man used a special machine to check the dog for a microchip, and a quick beeping sound indicated that the dog was chipped. Within minutes, they were able to contact the dog’s owner, Dave, and let him know that she had been found and was safe.

Dave told the worker that four days earlier he had been walking Luna, the lost dog, and his other dog. Unfortunately, a car struck the other dog as they were walking. Thankfully, it only caused minor injuries, but Luna got scared in all of the commotions and ran away. Dave was thankful that the worker had taken time to rescue his dog.

This is just one of many cases when microchips have been used to reunite pets with their owners. Do you have a pet yourself? If so, let us know how much they mean to you and how you'd react if they ever got lost. Be sure to pass this article on to all animal lovers out there!
