Michelle Yeoh’s appearance at the “Wicked: For Good” Singapore premiere brought a major shift in her public image, not only because of her dramatic new hairstyle but also because of the intense online debate that followed.

The Oscar-winning actress debuted a sleek blonde bob – an unexpected choice that immediately caught the attention of fans, co-stars, and media outlets worldwide. While some celebrated the bold makeover, others focused on perceived changes in her appearance, prompting a broader discussion about the scrutiny female celebrities often face.

Yeoh completed her look with a sculptural dress from Iris van Herpen’s Fall/Winter 2025 Couture Collection, pairing her warm blonde and medium-brown tones with a futuristic silhouette that perfectly suited the film’s fantasy aesthetic. However, online conversations quickly shifted to comparisons between Yeoh’s earlier appearances and her look at the premiere.

Comments ranged from concern to speculation, including viral remarks questioning whether the film project had taken a toll on its cast. Other fans countered these assumptions, pointing out that clothing, lighting, and angles could easily alter how someone appears in photos.

Some also argued that the scrutiny reflected a broader cultural issue regarding unrealistic beauty standards and the renewed popularity of extreme thinness. Throughout the conversation, Yeoh remained gracious. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she praised her co-stars, describing Grande and Erivo as “the yin and yang” whose energy and dedication brought the story to life.

At the Singapore premiere of “Wicked: For Good,” Yeoh stepped onto the carpet with a dramatic blonde bob that marked a significant departure from her usual style. According to reports from The List, even her co-stars were stunned by the transformation.

In a TikTok video shared by PEOPLE, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo could be seen embracing Yeoh after Grande exclaimed, “You’re blond!” Their reactions captured the surprise many fans shared as photos began circulating online.

Yeoh’s striking hairstyle was paired with a sculptural Iris van Herpen gown featuring a metallic corset and airy, honeycomb-inspired skirt. The futuristic ensemble aligned seamlessly with the imaginative spirit of the “Wicked” universe. Yet despite the fashion-forward moment, some fans were more focused on Yeoh’s appearance than her outfit, comparing her current look to photos taken before her involvement in the film.

One viral comment read:

“Guys, there’s no way to find this normal! Look at how Michelle was before that diabolical movie and look at how she is now omg.”

Others suggested the production appeared demanding, with one user writing:

“The three of them (look) awful… The production of this film should be reported.”

However, many pushed back against such claims, questioning why female celebrities continue to face disproportionate scrutiny.

“Wait, but she was already thin,” one user noted, while another criticized the conversation altogether, saying, “I don’t think the problem is Wicked. I think the problem is that extreme thinness has unfortunately come back into fashion.”

Yeoh, meanwhile, is known for her athletic background. As reported by Hello!, she grew up running, swimming, and practicing dance – her first passion. She once told The Washington Post that ballet instilled lifelong discipline, saying, “Having that kind of discipline… stays with you for the rest of your life.”
