After Ellen Degeneres came under fire for defending her friendship with former President George W. Bush, former First Lady Michelle Obama also talked about her friendly relationship with the president.

The talk show host had been spotted sitting and laughing with Former POTUS George W. Bush at a Dallas Cowboys game, many people were upset that Ellen was being friendly with someone of opposing views as her.

Ellen spoke on her T.V show about the issue saying, “People were upset. They thought, why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?" However, Ellen gave a sincere explanation:

I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have. We’re all different and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s OK that we’re all different.

In an interview with the Today show, Michelle Obama sat down with Jenna Bush Hager, daughter to George W. Bush and host on the morning talk show. Speaking on the Ellen and Bush controversy, Jenna said to Michelle, “I think you’re friends with both Ellen and my dad.”

Michelle responded saying, "I had an opportunity to sit by your father at funerals, the highs and the lows, and we shared stories about our kids and about our parents.”

Michelle continued saying:

“Our values are the same, we disagree on policy, but we don’t disagree on humanity, we don’t disagree about love and compassion. I think that’s true for all of us — it’s just that we get lost in our fear of what’s different.”

Michelle Obama and President Bush's friendship has been documented over the years as they have been picture giving each other candy and hugging each other at events.

“I personally, and I think so many of us, miss a time where people who have different opinions get along,” Michelle said. “And I yearn for that. I want my kids to realize that we live in a world when people are think tons of different things and we treat everybody with respect and kindness.”
