Former first lady Michelle Obama announced she is donating more than $500,000 in proceeds from her bestselling memoir, "Becoming." The money will go towards supporting girls' education globally.

Amid the giving spirit, Michelle said in a statement per People, “Over the past year I’ve been incredibly blessed and humbled by the response to my book, and I’m proud to channel that enthusiasm toward girls around the world.”

“My hope is that this donation will help more bold and brilliant girls reach their fullest potential, continuing upward on their path toward becoming the women they are meant to be.”

Bertelsmann's Penguin Random House, which published Michelle’s book said “Becoming” will likely become its highest-selling autobiography ever. The publisher also hinted at former President Barack Obama's upcoming book becoming an equal or even greater success. Speaking on autobiography’s successful 2.8 percent gain for the publisher, Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Rabe told a news conference as cited by NBC,

“That makes it our most notable creative success of last year."

The Obama Foundation launched the Girls Opportunity Alliance which aims at helping girls around the world receive an education. With proceeds from the incredibly successful memoir, Michelle is gearing up to travel to Asia this month to continue the alliances' goals at supporting girls' education initiatives according to People.

“I’ve always thought of helping others as a responsibility,” Michelle said this past Tuesday. “This duty of giving back is what my parents and grandparents taught me, and it’s a value I’ve tried to live by my entire life — because it’s not enough just to make your way through life, thinking only of yourself.”
