Michael Strahan Visits Daughter Isabella at USC for Parents Weekend & the Photo He Posted Is a Moment Two Years in the Making

In October 2023, Isabella Strahan was 19 years old and about to begin her freshman year at the University of Southern California when she was diagnosed with medulloblastoma — a malignant brain tumor. She had two brain surgeries, four rounds of chemotherapy, and radiation treatment. She documented much of it in a series of YouTube vlogs, so that people going through similar experiences would not feel alone.
In July 2024, she was declared cancer-free. In August 2024, she went back to USC.
For parents weekend, her father flew to Los Angeles.
Michael Strahan, the Hall of Fame NFL defensive end and "Good Morning America" co-anchor, posted a selfie with his daughter at the University of Southern California — Isabella in a white tank top with a USC pin, red curls on full display, flashing a peace sign at the camera; Strahan in a white cap and quarter-zip, smiling beside her. The caption read simply: "Parents weekend with @isabellastrahan ❤️❤️ Fight On." Tom Brady was among those who commented.
"They're coming to hang out for the free dinners and stuff I'm going to pay for and a few of the parties," Strahan told PEOPLE about parents weekend. "I'm just happy that they're here."
The timing of the visit carries its own quiet weight. Two years ago, Strahan sat beside his daughter on "Good Morning America" and told the world she had brain cancer. He said: "I literally think that in a lot of ways, I'm the luckiest man in the world because I got an amazing daughter." He also said he did not know what he would do without her. He has not had to find out.
Parents weekend. Fight On. A selfie in the sun.
Isabella's journey from diagnosis to USC parents weekend has been one of the most closely followed recovery stories in recent memory — in part because she chose to document it so publicly, and in part because of who her father is and the platform that came with his presence beside her.
She told PEOPLE in 2024, after being declared cancer-free: "It feels like I'm starting over. Back to where I started." She also said: "Obviously you can't predict what can happen, and that is a little scary. But I don't think you can solely live in fear."
The ABC primetime special "Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan's Fight to Beat Cancer" — produced by ABC News Studios and Strahan's production company SMAC Entertainment — aired in 2025 and featured Isabella alongside her father, her twin sister Sophia, and her mother Jean Muggli. It gave a wider audience the full arc of what the family had been through.
What parents weekend represents, in that context, is not just a father visiting his daughter at college. It is a father visiting his daughter at college because she is alive and well and enrolled and posting peace signs in USC gear. Strahan said he did not know what he would do without her. He also said he was the luckiest man in the world. Standing at USC on a September afternoon, taking a selfie with his daughter, he appears to still believe both things.
Isabella shares the twin milestone with her sister Sophia, who was present throughout her treatment and has remained close. Tom Brady liked the post. It was, by all accounts, a very good weekend.
