Famed actor Micheal J. Fox is rarely seen in public these days. That is why his fans were delighted to see the family photo he shared recently. It showed Fox, his wife of 31 years, Tracy Pollen, and all of his children-three daughters and a son. They looked so happy.

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the early 1990s when he was just 29. The average age of diagnosis of this neurodegenerative disease is 56, but around four percent of patients are diagnosed at younger ages; in fact, the youngest known case was diagnosed at age 12.

Eigh years following his diagnosis, Fox semi-retired from acting due to symptom progression and founded a Parkinson's disease research foundation, the Michael J. Fox foundation. The foundation holds a charity event every year.

The family photo 58-year-old Fox shared on Instagram was from this charity event that he attended in New York City with his wife and four children. He wore a dapper dark grey suit with a pale blue shirt and a tie the color of his suit; he looked happy and well.

The cause of Parkinson's disease is unknown. It affects twice as many men as women. There is an inherited factor involved, and environmental factors that are thought to increase the risk include head trauma, smoking, and exposure to pollution.

The disease affects the brain and results in difficulty moving normally. Medications are available to help control the symptoms but there is no cure yet. The disease does not appear to shorten lifespan.

If you know a fan of the Back to the Future star, tell them about this event and the happy family photo.
