Earlier this month, Hollywood power-couple Catherine Zeta-Jones, 50, and Michael Douglas, 75, made an appearance at the 17th Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in India.
During the summit, the couple had a sit-down where they spilled their secrets to a happy marriage that spans almost two decades now.

“They said it wouldn’t last,” Zeta-Jones joked, “but it’s been a wonderful journey of real love and friendship.”
The 50-year-old explained how their friendship throughout the years and “sticking together through thick and thin” has contributed to their loving marriage.
“I think the secret is, for our relationship, is just being kind to each other, retaining our sense of humor,” she added. “We’ve just been blessed with two amazing, beautiful children who inspire us as grown-ups every day and rejuvenate us all the time.”

“First you marry somebody 25 years younger, then you find out the first time you meet her that you have the same birthday, we both have the same birthday, September 25th, and then you tell her on the first night that you met her ‘I’m gonna be the father of your children’,” Douglas said humorously of meeting his wife for the very first time in 1998.
The actor then went on to say that people often forget to make an effort for those who are closest to them and instead do so for strangers. Reminding oneself of the people that are most important to them is key.
“And then finally, happy wife, happy life!”
The interviewer then quizzed the couple about a letter, Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas’ father, wrote to them on their 19th anniversary in November. According to Zeta-Jones, Kirk had gifted the couple a vase with a letter inside that contained words of wisdom.
“Inside the vase was a letter from Kirk, from Michael’s dad, that said ‘Michael, you’ve learned very well from me, always listen to your wife, that’s what is a happy marriage. Just like me, I’ve always listened to my wife.’,” she revealed.
