The birth of Tatiana Garcia left her parents confused and wondering where she got her exceptionally light coloring.

Edith and Raul Garcia are both of Mexican-American descent. This is why it shocked them when their baby was born with ivory skin and blonde hair, looking nothing like their other little daughter.

They soon found out that Tatiana was albino and that the couple had both inherited the albinism gene. This means that Tatiana has hardly any pigmentation in her body, causing the light features. The family later found out the condition was present in some of their distant relatives. Since they both have the recessive gene for the condition, it became possible for them to have a baby with albinism.

Edith and Raul turned to the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation for more information and for emotional support.

Albinism is more than just a lack of pigmentation in the skin and hair. Tatiana also suffers from poor vision and a low depth perception because of the lack of pigment in her eyes. She is also sensitive to light and glares and has nystagmus. One of Tatiana's biggest fans is her older sister, Mariah. Her mother Edith believes that the albinism is part of God's plan for Tatiana and their family. She is empowered to teach as many people as possible about this condition in an effort to raise awareness.

Now you can check out these adorable pictures of Tatiana, along with her sister and family. After you have looked at the cute shots, be sure to spread the awareness about albinism to everyone that you know.
