Menacing Turkeys Terrorize A Town In New Jersey
Nov 19, 2019 by apost team
It is hard to think of Thanksgiving without thinking of the bird that is most associated with the holiday – the turkey. But this season, one New Jersey town is actually looking to local authorities for help with removing turkeys from their community.
The residents of Tom’s River, New Jersey, say they are being terrorized by a roving band of around 50 wild turkeys, as reported in The Independent. The problem seems to be most severe in a section of the town reserved for residents who are 55 years of age or older known ironically as Holiday City. "I can't get out of my door," says one resident to News 12 New Jersey. "Sometimes I can't get out of my car. They go to attack you."
While the thought of turkeys wreaking havoc on a town at Thanksgiving may seem comical, residents say that the animals have become aggressive and have attacked property and people.

Turkeys can weigh as much as 25 pounds and are faster than they appear, reaching top speeds of 20 mph. Because the turkeys are considered wildlife, Tom’s River Animal Control has stated that they are not trained or authorized to remove them.
One notable local resident, former major league baseball player Tom Frazier, is unsatisfied with the response from animal control. Frazier stated that the birds have already damaged his vehicles, destroyed his landscaping, and attacked loved ones.
New Jersey’s Division of Fish & Wildlife is investigating the situation. Residents are being encouraged to simply shoo the birds away by spraying them with water, using a loud noise maker, or physically diverting them with an object such as a broom.
