Melissa McCarthy Snuck 40 Ham Sandwiches Into The Golden Globes And Secretly Gave Them Away

The Golden Globe Awards highlighted many of our favourite celebrities. In anticipation of the evening's ceremonies, we got to see our favourite stars dressed in their finest. With all the glitz and glamour most of us would never think that most of these people are spending those several hours working up quite a hunger.

While we can sit at home and enjoy the show while we nibble on some snacks if we so choose, those in the spotlight usually don’t get to eat until after the festivities wrap up.

Somehow, McCarthy and her husband, Ben Falcone, snuck 40 ham-and-cheese sandwiches into the award ceremonies. These were not thin sandwiches on white bread, but gourmet deli-made baguettes. While there is a full dinner given by the Hollywood Foreign Press, the organization that hosts the awards and selects the winners, it is held at the time when the celebrities are busy with the red carpet and pre-show appearances.

They may get a drink or two and many do have little snacks they bring in a purse or hide in a jacket pocket, but basically, they are famished. So you can imagine how grateful they must have been when Melissa McCarthy and her husband presented them backstage with a full ham-and-cheese surprise meal.

No one knows how the couple managed this neat trick. Some of the stars were even a bit tipsy since they had a drink or two on an empty stomach. One Golden Globe winner, Olivia Colman, even gave a shout-out from onstage.

Jessica Chastain marveled, wondering “How did she get them in here?” and added that because they don’t gain entrance to the ballroom until after dinner has been served “and you’re always so hungry.”

Ben Falcone managed to sneak a photo of the feast the couple brought and post it on Instagram. There you can see a large bag filled with the individually wrapped sandwiches that were prepared by a specialty food market in Los Angeles.

On top of the bagful of goodies is a large ice pack to keep the food fresh. Falcone said they brought 40 sandwiches and there were only two left at the end of the night. He thought they had a lot of “satisfied customers.”

Although McCarthy might have not won her category, which was won by Glenn Close, she may well have been the star of the evening to all her fellow performers. Lady Gaga was seen munching on some Fruity Pebbles and was sure glad to know there was something more substantial available.

Maybe the funniest line of the whole night was said offstage when Melissa McCarthy announced, “Next year I’m bringing hot dogs."

It would be interesting to know if you’ve been surprised in this way. Maybe you brought something to surprise others. It’s great to know that a seemingly simple gesture can wow our favourite stars as feeding them a sandwich and that one of their own is thinking of them.
