Melanie Lynskey And Jason Ritter's Love Story Escalated When They Married Out Of Panic In 2020

Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter are quite low-key about their relationship, but they have been together since working on “The Big Ask” in 2013. The couple, who got engaged in 2017, rushed to get married in 2020 because she apparently panicked.

Lynskey and Ritter share one of the longest, most private and well-protected relationships in Hollywood despite working on several projects together, including the upcoming second season of “Yellowjackets,” where Lynskey earned an Emmy nomination. They were not paired as a romantic couple in their early projects on the screen, and Ritter actually played Lynskey’s brother in the 2014 movie, “We'll Never Have Paris.” However, this film marked their official red-carpet appearance as a couple after Lynskey and Ritter went to SXSW.

In 2016, Lynskey and Ritter were finally cast as lovers in “The Intervention” and she told ScreenCrush in an exclusive interview that it was fun and easy to work with her boyfriend because “he is such a good actor.” Two days after Valentine’s Day in 2017, Lynskey confirmed that they got engaged after four years of dating, and the proposal simply happened while they were sitting comfortably on the sofa.

By January 2019, “The Last of Us” actress told her Twitter followers that she welcomed her first baby with Ritter a month before the story got out. Conscious of their privacy, the new parents haven’t revealed details or pictures of their daughter’s face even if Lynskey and Ritter are on social media.

While doing the promo for “Candy” in 2022, Lynskey surprised her fans after she revealed she has been married to Ritter since 2020. This is the second marriage for Lynskey, who was married to Jimmi Simpson from 2007 to 2014.

Speaking with SiriusXM’s Jess CagleLynskey said she panicked after someone told her Ritter wouldn’t be allowed in Canada, where she was going to film “Yellowjackets” for six months, since they are not married. This was around the time of the strict quarantine and travel restrictions.

“And I was like, ‘We have a child. What? I can’t leave for six months.’ So, I was like, ‘We have to get married tomorrow.’”

So, before leaving Atlanta, where the couple was renting a house, Lynskey and Ritter had a spontaneous wedding on their front porch with only two friends as witnesses, along with the wedding officiant.

“It was actually a very fun wedding day, but it didn’t need to happen. He could totally have gotten into Canada.”

Meanwhile, Ritter, who is the son of iconic comedian John Ritter who died in 2003, said in an exclusive on Us Weekly that his relationship with his wife remains exciting after all these years because they are in the same line of work and can evolve as actors and as partners together. They have a lot to talk about as a couple, and he credits her for making him better at what he’s doing.

“I think what’s incredible in a relationship is if you have a wonderful partner, they can help you grow. I think the stubbornness and the unwillingness to grow can be poisonous.”

On the other hand, Lynskey credits her husband for being a nice person. She feels like she made the right choice for a partner when people come up to her and compliment Ritter’s personality and creativity.
