Meghan Markle’s Father Calls For Stripping Her Royal Title After She 'Insulted' Queen

Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, prefers to keep her personal life out of the tabloids ever since she and Harry left their royal duties behind for a life in the United States. Since their controversial exit from the royal family, however, they have found themselves surrounded by a lot of attention, a lot of which has not been positive. However, ardent fans of Meghan and Harry have continued to lend their support to the couple. 

Meghan and Harry have had an incredibly eventful year. This summer alone has been huge for the couple, with the birth of their daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 4 kicking things off. Named in honor of both her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and Harry's late mother Princess Diana, Lilibet's birth propelled the couple back into the press after a few months of laying low due to their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. 

Then mere days after giving birth to their daughter, the Duchess of Sussex released her very first children's book titled "The Bench." The story began as a poem that Markle wrote to Harry one Father's Day before it was turned into a book with gorgeous illustrations by Christian Robinson. To top the year off, Harry and Meghan graced one of the seven covers of TIME Magazine after they made it to the list of Most Influential People. 

In November 2021, Meghan sat down for an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, her second this year after her controversial sit-down with Oprah Winfrey. Meghan's estranged father, Thomas Markle, has reacted to her interview with Ellen and has shockingly called for the stripping of her royal titles. 

Meghan and her currently estranged father have shared a very complicated relationship for a long time according to Marie Claire. Their already volatile relationship became strained shortly before her wedding to Prince Harry after Thomas lied to Meghan about staging paparazzi photos. Since her marriage into the royal family and everything else that came after, Meghan has not reunited with her father, and their relationship has only become more damaged as time as gone on. 

Over the years, Thomas has been very vocal about his daughter, and as per the timeline the Insider has laid out, his words went from loving and kind towards his daughter to extremely angry. In July 2018, Thomas had told The Sun, "If I had one message for her it would be that I'm sorry for anything that went wrong. I'd like to put our differences behind us and get together."

However, by the end of the same month, Thomas spoke to the Daily Mail with a very different tone, "What riles me is Meghan's sense of superiority. She'd be nothing without me. I made her the duchess she is today. Everything that Meghan is, I made her... She became the woman that she is today thanks to everything I did for her. And did I get any recognition for it? Any thanks? She doesn't even speak to me now. How cold is that?" 

Their relationship has only gone downhill since then, and Thomas has often made his thoughts clear about his daughter and her actions. He has also reacted to Meghan's most recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

The Mirror reported that during her interview, the Duchess of Sussex talked about a number of subjects that included her last wild night with Prince Harry before they were thrust into the spotlight, her life before she became famous, and photos of her children.

Meghan also took part in a skit on-air; one outside the studio where she was at a market stall and decided to shop for crystals and performed acts such as closing her eyes and holding a crystal to her head while chanting, and during the time, she also had to do everything that the talk show host told her, including squatting down, eating crisps like a chipmunk, dancing and swigging milk from a baby’s bottle.

Reacting to this, Thomas told The Sun that he was "embarrassed," adding, "She insulted the Queen, the Royal Family and the British people...She made a complete fool of herself and should lose her title."

He also said, "I love my daughter but her performance was ridiculous." 

News.com.au reported that Thomas was also angry that his daughter talked about her old Ford Explorer Sport that had "a life of its own." The format actress said, "I would park in the back of the parking lot and open the trunk, then climb in and pull it shut behind me and crawl over all my seats to get out." Thomas presented a very different story, saying that it wasn't "a beat-up old car. She got a lot of help starting in Hollywood. She never had to worry about an apartment or spending money."
