Meghan Markle Shares Rare Family Vacation Photos and the One of Archie in a Cockpit Has Everyone Smiling
Jul 24, 2026 by apost team
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, posted a carousel of photographs to Instagram with two words and a sun emoji: "Summer holiday ☀️." The images that followed offered one of the most candid and joyful glimpses into Sussex family life in years — and arrived just days after the family's historic reunion with King Charles at Highgrove.
The photographs show Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, with their children Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, on what appears to be a European summer holiday. The family is in swimwear at a beach, Archie and Lilibet splashing in the sea. In one image, Harry — wearing a cap — playfully flips Lilibet into the air during a pool day, her face mid-delight. In another, Harry and Meghan are photographed together at a dinner table, giggling over a glass of red wine. The couple look easy, relaxed, and privately happy in a way the camera occasionally catches and cannot entirely be manufactured.
Then there is Archie. One photograph shows him sitting inside the cockpit of a plane, wearing a captain's hat and reaching toward the controls alongside the pilots. It is the kind of photograph parents take when their child is having the best moment of his life, and Meghan apparently could not resist sharing it.
The holiday was framed as a European getaway, believed to have included time in Portugal — where Harry and Meghan own a property purchased in 2023 — before the family traveled to the UK for the Highgrove reunion. The posting came days after the family returned from Britain. It offered no dates, no location tags, and no further explanation. It did not need any.

The timing of the post was noted widely. The family's UK visit — which ended July 11, 2026 — had been one of the most emotionally significant trips Harry and Meghan had made to Britain since stepping back from royal duties in 2020. It included the private Highgrove reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla, the first time Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet in four years. The family also made a private visit to Althorp, Princess Diana's childhood home and burial site in Northamptonshire.
The photographs posted on July 23 placed the family on a beach and at a pool and in a cockpit — the world they have built for themselves in California and Portugal, filtered through the warmth of a European summer. The legal battles and the security disputes and the years of public conflict were the backdrop. The foreground was a little boy in a captain's hat and a little girl being flipped into the air by her father.
"Summer holiday," Meghan wrote. Nothing more was needed. The photographs were, as they often are, chosen with care and released with intention. But the joy in them — the wine at dinner, the splash in the sea, the look on Archie's face in that cockpit — appeared entirely real.
Meghan did not disclose where the holiday took place, though the getaway has been described as a European escape. Harry and Meghan purchased a property in Portugal in 2023, and the family is believed to have spent time there before and after the UK leg of the trip. The images offered no dates, no location tags, and no further explanation.
They did not need any.
