In her very first TV appearance since the notorious Oprah interview, Meghan Markle gave a nod to the late Princess Diana with her choice of accessories. The interview, named "Oprah with Meghan and Harry" was seen across the United States and the rest of the world in March 2021.
Meghan and Harry just celebrated their son Archie's second birthday on Thursday, May 6, 2021. The latest addition to the family, confirmed to be a baby girl, is expected to be born sometime this summer.
The couple also celebrated Mother's Day in private at their home in Montecito, California. It is also likely that Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, could take part in the family's Mother's Day celebrations this year. PEOPLE reported that she lives in Los Angeles, not far from Meghan and Harry's home in Montecito.
May has marked a special month overall for the family because Meghan also released her own children's book last week. The book is slated to be published on June 8 and will be called "The Bench," and is about the special relationship between father and sons, which was inspired by Harry's relationship with his son Archie.
Now Meghan has been seen for the first time on TV after the interview, in a speech she gave from her home in California in support of the Global Citizen Vax Live concert. Because Meghan is heavily pregnant, she was not able to attend the concert on Saturday with her husband. Instead, she recorded a speech for the event, in which she is seen accessorizing with a nod to Princess Diana.

As Meghan Markle spoke from her home in California, she emphasized how the COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted women. She said:
"The past year has been defined by communities coming together tirelessly and heroically to tackle Covid-19. We've gathered tonight because the road ahead is getting brighter, but it's going to take every one of us to find our way forward. As campaign chairs of Vax Live, my husband and I believe it's critical that our recovery prioritises the health, safety and success of everyone – and particularly women, who have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic. Women, and especially women of colour, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out."
Not only were Meghan and Harry active in the Vax Live concert by Global Citizen, but they also recently donated supplies to a women's shelter in honor of mother's day.
Harry and Meghan wrote on their foundation's website, Archewell:
"In honor of Mother's Day, Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are recognizing the work of Harvest Home, a Los Angeles–based organization that uplifts expectant mothers who are experiencing homelessness."
Meghan and Harry reflected on how pregnancy can be a vulnerable time for any woman, but especially so for women who are homeless and women of color, who are often turned away from homeless shelters through no fault of their own. They recognize the "extraordinary facility" and work that Harvest Home has already done for many women and pledge to help them as they expand their organization to care for more women.
In the Vax Live video, Meghan also talked about her soon-to-be-born daughter. She said:
"My husband and I are thrilled to soon be welcoming a daughter."
Meghan was seen cradling her baby bump as she gave her speech in the pre-recorded video. Meghan wore a bright pink Carolina Herrera poppy-printed dress, a Cartier love bracelet, and even a particular accessory that served as a nod to Princess Diana: her Cartier Tank watch. According to The Sun, the watch was given to Princess Diana by her father in honor of her 21st birthday. However, the necklace that Meghan wore also sparked interest in its symbolism: a Woman Power Charm Necklace. The necklace also features a 'goddess' coin that was a part of a collection to honor Vice President Kamala Harris as the first-ever woman and first-ever woman of color, vice president of the United States.
Meghan went on in her speech to discuss her joy at the arrival of her and Harry's first daughter. She said:
"It's a feeling of joy we share with millions of other families around the world. When we think of her, we think of all the young women and girls around the globe who must be given the ability and the support to lead us forward."
Meghan's also recently branched out to celebrating motherhood through publishing her very own children's book, "The Bench." According to The Huffington Post, Meghan stated that the book found its origin in a poem she wrote for Father's Day, the month after her son Archie was born. It was originally intended as a gift for her husband, Prince Harry. Out of this poem grew a children's book focusing on the relationship of sons and their fathers, as seen through the eyes of the children's mother; it's expected to be released June 8th.
