Meghan Markle's Traditional Plans For Thanksgiving In The States With Prince Harry And Archie

Nov 17, 2020 by apost team

Settled into their Santa Barbara home, it appears that the Sussexes will spend this year's Thanksgiving Stateside—marking the first time they'll officially spend the holiday in the US since being together.

In the past Meghan has made no secret of her love of the holiday on her former blog The Tig, leading many to believe that she'll be pulling out all the stops to make this a traditional and festive celebration for Harry and Archie.

This year's Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, and with the Sussexes settled into their home in Santa Barbara, California, they're expected to spend this year's Thanksgiving there. This will mark the first time they'll be spending the holiday in their new home as well as the first official Thanksgiving together in the United States. Last year, the couple spent the holiday in Canada, while they were taking a six-week-break from royal duties.

In the past, Meghan had posted frequently on her former blog The Tig about her love of the holiday, leading many to assume she'll be eager to make this one a Thanksgiving to remember for Harry and Archie. Although Meghan stepped away from her blog after getting married to Prince Harry, her archived posts remain and offer some insight into what she may have in store for her family.

Most importantly is gratitude. Meghan has spoken in the past about how her family "came from little," leading them to give a lot during Thanksgiving to people in need. She previously wrote on The Tig, as reported by People Magazine:

"Despite the contrast of my two worlds growing up, there was a powerful commonality: both my parents came from little, so they made a choice to give a lot—buying turkeys for homeless shelters at Thanksgiving, delivering meals to patients in hospice care, donating any spare change in their pocket to those asking for it, and performing quiet acts of grace—be it a hug, a smile, or a pat on the back to show ones in need that they would be alright."

Meghan continued:

"This is what I grew up seeing, so that is what I grew up being: a young adult with a social consciousness to do what I could, and to, at the very least, speak up when I knew something was wrong."

Alongside practicing gratitude, Meghan showed off her passion for cooking on the blog as well, often posting Thanksgiving recipes—everything from turkey and chicken to foragers' pie and almond butter bites. People reports that Meghan had once posted a picture of a delicious-looking turkey to her now-defunct Instagram with the caption:

“Oh, that time I roasted a pretty perfect Thanksgiving turkey! The question is, can I do it again? The pressure is on!"

Gratitude and food go hand in hand and since cooking for loved ones is something that Meghan appears to be fond of, it's no doubt that whatever is served this Thanksgiving, it'll come from the heart, and probably taste delicious too!

In fact, Meghan is no stranger to combining her passions for helping others and cooking. As her first Royal charity project in 2018, the Duchess of Sussex supported a charity cookbook titled Together: Our Community Cookbook, which was created by local women that were affected by London's Grenfell Tower Fire. Coming together at the Hubb Community Kitchen in West London, the women from various cultural backgrounds worked together to prepare food for people in their local areas.

In an Instagram post on the Kensington Royal account, the charitable endeavor was announced as celebrating "the power of cooking to bring people together." The book featured over 50 recipes from the women and proceeds went back into the Hubb Community Kitchen, allowing it to stay open and thrive. Markle appeared in and narrated a short promotional video for the charitable project, which described the women coming together as they "discovered the healing power of sharing food."

With her love of Thanksgiving and her work with communities using food to bring people together, Meghan knows that Thanksgiving is all about gratitude and sharing good food with loved ones. We're sure she'll succeed in making this holiday a memorable and heartfelt one for her family.
