Meghan Markle Releases Video Of Her Reading To Archie On His First Birthday

May 06, 2020 by apost team

In celebration of baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor's first birthday on May 6, his mother Meghan Markle read a book titled Duck! Rabbit! to him, while his father Prince Harry recorded the adorable moment. Celebrating in their new home of Los Angeles, the video shows just how much Archie has grown in the last year.

Uploaded to the Save the Children Instagram page, the special reading was part of the charity's Save with Stories campaign that aims to help children and families struggling due to the coronavirus crisis.

Immediately when the video begins, the bright LA sunshine is apparent, while Meghan looks glowing. She's obviously very happy and excited to read to Archie, who at this point is a little distracted already. But once Meghan introduces the book Duck! Rabbit! and begins reading to the little birthday boy, he becomes enthralled in what is happening.

Clearly eager, Archie even opens the book himself, getting storytime started without a hitch. Soon enough as Meghan's soothing voice reads the lines of the story—the book's premise plays on whether the illustrated animal is a duck or a rabbit, with converse opinions leading the story throughout—Archie begins to giggle and smile, and it's the sweetest thing to see.

Not only is he enjoying himself so much reading with his mum, but they're doing it for a great cause. About halfway through little Archie becomes a bit distracted however, which is not all that surprising for a one-year-old. He even picks up another book before they've finished the current one they're reading, to which Meghan says "Let's finish this book first, then we can have that book." He then goes on to drop that book on the floor, causing both of his parents to giggle with laughter.

This is when it becomes clear that Prince Harry is playing cameraman, as he also begins to communicate with little Archie. When the book is finally finished, he lets out a proud, "Yaaaay, the end, woooo!" as Meghan adds, "Good job!" It's too sweet to see this young family enjoying each others' company and especially when their activity is for such a good cause.

The caption to the Instagram post states: "Duck! Rabbit! by @akrfoundation & @tlichtenheld (published by @chroniclekidsbooks). Read by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex (with Harry, The Duke of Sussex behind the camera) to their son Archie for his 1st Birthday. Happy Birthday, Archie!"

Born on May 6, 2019 at the private Portland Hospital in Westminster, London, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex already opted against tradition when Meghan didn't have her picture taken on the hospital steps after giving birth, the way that Princess Diana, Sarah Ferguson, and the Duchess of Cambridge did. Instead Harry appeared outside Windsor Castle to announce the news, while beaming from happiness. The couple instead had an intimate photo session at their Windsor Castle residence a few days after his birth.

Great-grandson to the Queen, Archie is seventh in line to the throne, although he isn't actually a prince, unlike his cousins George, Charlotte, and Louis. This is because in the last year, his parents quit their royal duties and moved to Canada, before settling down in LA. However, the little tot has been on his first royal tour, when he travelled to South Africa with his parents as they met with Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Now celebrating Archie's first birthday in Los Angeles, his big day will unfortunately be a much smaller affair than anticipated. Mirror reported that Meghan and Harry had intended to celebrate with a big birthday bash with their A-list friends, who include Serena Williams, Priyanka Chopra, and George and Amal Clooney. However due to the coronavirus lockdown in California, the party has been cancelled and instead the trio celebrated by themselves in a low-key manner. They had also planned to visit the UK, but that will also be postponed.
