Meghan Markle Marked Prince Archie’s 7th Birthday With Sweet Never-Before-Seen Photos

Every year on May 6, the world turns its attention — however briefly — to a little boy growing up far from the royal spotlight. Prince Archie of Sussex turns 7 this year, and while his parents have kept him largely shielded from public life, the glimpses they have shared over the years paint a picture of a boy who is happy, loved, and very much his parents’ son.

His mother, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, marked Prince Archie’s seventh birthday with a rare and personal Instagram tribute, giving followers a carefully chosen glimpse into family life with her son, her husband, Prince Harry and daughter, Princess Lilibet.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on May 6, 2019, and is the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Princess Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on June 4, 2021, making her Archie’s younger sister.

Meghan has spoken about wanting a grounded childhood for Archie and Lilibet. In an interview with PEOPLE, she described the family’s wish for “the same normalcy as parents and for our children” as other families. She also shared one simple routine with Archie: “Archie and I like to go and have lunch, share a burger and a Caesar salad, and have an ice cream sundae with two cherries on top.”

Archie’s birthday tribute also fitted the Sussexes’ careful approach to sharing their children’s lives. Since stepping back as working members of the royal family in 2020, Harry and Meghan have built their family life in California while keeping Archie and Lilibet largely away from public attention.

Meghan made her return to Instagram in January 2025, with her first post under the @meghan account showing her writing “2025” in the sand near the family’s Montecito home. Since then, she has shared glimpses of her children, all with their faces obscured. Her birthday message for Archie continued that selective style: personal and warm, yet limited.

The photos shared for Prince Archie’s birthday highlighted two sides of the Sussex family story: the early days of Prince Harry and Meghan as new parents, and the close sibling bond between Archie and Lilibet.

In the birthday post, Meghan wrote:

“7 years later…happy birthday to our sweet boy 🤍”

The post included two family photos: one showing Prince Harry holding newborn Archie, and another showing Archie and Lilibet from behind walking together on a beach.

The first image showed Prince Harry cradling Archie as a newborn, with the baby asleep on his chest. The second photo showed Archie and Lilibet from behind as they walked together on a beach, a setting often associated with the family’s California life. The choice to show the children from behind also reflected Harry and Meghan’s long-standing privacy-first approach.

The birthday post also drew attention to a familiar family trait. Both Archie and Lilibet have been described as having red hair, a feature Prince Harry jokingly connected to Princess Diana’s side of the family during his Jan. 10, 2023, appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

“Definitely my mum. The ginger gene is a strong one!” he said, adding, “The Spencer gene is very, very strong.”

For Harry and Meghan, the post served as a family tribute rather than a public statement. With only two images and a short caption, Meghan celebrated Archie’s milestone while preserving the boundary the couple has set around their children.
