May 9, 2021, marked Mother's Day across many nations in the world, including the US, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated the day in a very special way. Meghan chose to honor the day in her home state by recognizing a local charity. Markle released a statement on the foundation that she shares with her husband.

Through the Archewell foundation in partnership with the company Procter & Gamble, Harry and Meghan will be donating a year's worth of diapers and cleaning supplies to a Los Angeles-based charity organization that provides housing for pregnant women and their children.

This Mother's Day is extra special for Harry and Meghan as they are expecting their second child, a girl, soon in the summer. Their son, Archie, celebrated his second birthday earlier in the week and was showered with love from his family in the UK as well as the US.

The couple reportedly celebrated Mother's Day in private at their home in Montecito, California according to Hello Magazine. It is also likely that Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, could take part in the family's Mother's Day celebrations this year. PEOPLE reported that she lives in Los Angeles, not far from Meghan and Harry's home in Montecito.

May has marked a special month overall for the family because Meghan also released her own children's book last week. The book is slated to be published on June 8 and will be called "The Bench," and is about the special relationship between father and sons which was inspired by Harry's relationship with his son Archie.

Harry and Meghan wrote on their foundation's website, Archewell:

"In honor of Mother’s Day, Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are recognizing the work of Harvest Home, a Los Angeles–based organization that uplifts expectant mothers who are experiencing homelessness."

Meghan and Harry reflected on how pregnancy can be a vulnerable time for any woman, but especially so for women who are homeless and women of color, who are often turned away from homeless shelters through no fault of their own. They recognize the "extraordinary facility" and work that Harvest Home has already done for many women, and pledge to help them as they expand their organization to care for more women.

The statement continued with, "Through Archewell Foundation, The Duke and Duchess’ mission is to demonstrate compassion in action, spark supportive and connected communities, and build a more equitable and just future. Their aim is to ensure that parents, of every makeup and all walks of life, have the support they need to raise families that thrive. With this mission in mind, Archewell Foundation, along with Procter & Gamble are fulfilling Harvest Home’s online wish list for the women they serve, including diapers for a year and cleaning supplies to stock the shelves at Harvest Home’s first facility as well as their new home in progress. "

The statement then concluded:

"From all of us at Team Archewell, Happy Mother’s Day. May we all recognize and support the expectant mothers, as well as all mothers, in our lives and communities every day in the year ahead."

Since stepping down as senior royals, Harry and Meghan have taken on various projects. In September 2020, it became known that they had entered a general overall deal with Netflix. The deal will be in place for several years and will see the former royals develop scripted as well as unscripted TV series, documentaries, and movies, including programs geared specifically towards children, for the streaming platform.

Even back in 2020, their work had a slant towards providing programs for children. The Hollywood Reporter quoted the couple as having said: "Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens."

It is only natural then that Meghan and Harry venture into the world of publishing with Meghan's new book, "The Bench." According to The Huffington Post, Meghan stated that the book found its origin in a poem she wrote for Father's Day the month after her son Archie was born. It was originally intended as a gift for her husband, Prince Harry. Out of this poem grew a children's book focusing on the relationship of sons and their fathers, as seen through the eyes of the children's mother.

Harry and Meghan also celebrated their son, Archie's birthday on May 6. In honor of Archie's birthday, the couple posted an inspiring message to the website of their foundation Archewell's website asking fans to help donate to a worthy cause and stating that for every $5 donation, a COVID vaccine will be donated to someone in need around the world.
