Meghan Markle Has Updated Her Engagement Ring - And It Now Has Even More Sparkle

It appears that the Duchess of Sussex has redesigned the engagement ring Prince Harry proposed with - and now, it's even sparklier than before.

The Duke got down on one knee back in November of 2017. The original ring featured one diamond from Botswana, where he does a lot of charity work, and two from his mother, Princess Diana’s collection.

However, in recent photos of the Duchess it appears that the ring has been significantly changed.

While the diamonds were originally set on a thick gold band, they now sit daintily on a much thinner micropavé band.

Fans only just noticed the update after photos from Trooping the Color were released, but it turns out the Duchess has been wearing the newly redesigned ring for much longer than that. She was already wearing the redesigned ring during Archie’s first photoshoot in May 2019.

Fans are speculating the work may have been done during the last few months of Meghan Markle’s pregnancy when she was spotted without her ring.

She wears the updated version alongside her wedding ring, which is made from Welsh gold according to royal tradition. She has also been wearing a new ring, which is believed to be either a first-anniversary gift or a ‘push present’ from Harry.

Both Camilla and the Duchess of Cambridge have also been known to modernize pieces from the royal collection, so the Duchess of Sussex isn’t the first royal to update valuable pieces of jewelry.

The Duchess of Cambridge notably updated a pair of sapphire stud earrings that originally belonged to Princess Diana. Prince William gave them to Kate as a present in 2012, as they match the engagement ring both Kate and Princess Diana wore, which features a large sapphire surrounded by diamonds. Kate had them changed from studs to drop earrings.

The earrings were one of Princess Diana’s most prized possessions. She was pictured wearing them at many events throughout the 1980s and 1990s. 

Kate has worn the updated earrings on numerous occasions, including during their Royal Tour of Canada.
