Meghan Markle Claims She Was The Most Targeted Person By Online Trolls ‘In The Entire World’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had a rough few months in early 2026. Since stepping back from royal duties and planting roots in Montecito, California, the couple has been working hard to build a new life on their own terms — new projects, new ventures, a new brand. But the narrative around them keeps slipping out of their control.
On April 16, 2026, Meghan revealed that she endured relentless online harassment for a decade, describing herself as “the most trolled person in the entire world.” She made the statement during a discussion with young people connected to the Australian youth mental health organization Batyr at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne.
Speaking candidly, Meghan said: “And I can speak to that really personally, which is why I like to listen, because it rings true for me in a very real way.” She continued, “For now, 10 years, every day for 10 years, I have been bullied and attacked. And I was the most trolled person in the entire world.” She added: “Now, I’m still here.”
Her remarks highlighted concerns about the structure of online platforms. Meghan stated that social media companies were “not incentivized to stop.” She explained further: “And when I think of all of you and what you're experiencing, I think so much of that is having to realize that you know that industry, that billion-dollar industry, that is completely anchored and predicated on cruelty to get clicks – that's not going to change. So you have to be stronger than that.”
Alongside her was her husband, Prince Harry, who shared his own mental health struggles, reinforcing the importance of seeking help and building resilience in challenging environments.

During the same discussion, Prince Harry addressed the impact of social media on well-being, telling the group that it had “led to so much loneliness for so many people.” Reflecting on his own experience, he said:
“I waited until I was literally in the fetal position, much older, lying on the kitchen floor. Until I was like, ok maybe this therapy thing – maybe I should try it.”
He also commented on Australia’s approach to regulating youth access to social media, stating:
“Australia took the lead. Your government was the first country in the world to bring about a ban.”
While acknowledging differing opinions, he added:
“Now we can sit here and debate the pros and cons of a ban – I'm not here to judge that. All I will say is from a responsibility and leadership standpoint – epic.”
However, he emphasized that responsibility should extend to technology companies.
“Because so many countries have now followed suit, but it should have never got to a ban,” he said, adding, “It should have never, ever got to a ban. And now that the ban is in place, now what follows? Because the companies themselves have to be accountable, and there's no way that young people should be punished by being banned from something that should be safe to use, no matter what.”
Meghan and Harry’s engagement with Batyr reflected their ongoing advocacy. Founded in 2011 by Sebastian Robertson, the organization promotes mental health awareness through storytelling and peer support, aiming to normalize conversations and provide hope to young people.
