On Feb. 4, 2025, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, announced her collaboration with nine-time Grammy Award winner Billie Eilish to assist a teenage girl who lost everything in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The Eaton Fire in early January 2025 devastated many Altadena homes, contributing to the ongoing wildfire crisis in the wider area.

Born and raised in L.A., Meghan, 43, now resides in Montecito, about 90 miles north, with Prince Harry, 40. On Jan. 10, the couple visited “a community where all the homes were left in ashes” in Pasadena to aid Eaton Fire victims.

On Jan. 13, Meghan visited the Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery group to hand over essentials for affected teen girls. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex supported the initiative through their Archewell Foundation, and they also opened their Montecito home to evacuees.

In her Instagram post on Feb. 4. announcing her partnership with the 23-year-old Eilish, Meghan wore a stylish sweatshirt featuring the names of her and Harry’s two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, in cursive on the collar. As she walked through her home, she said: “I was just told that something arrived that I have been waiting for.”

She then found the long-awaited box filled with merchandise. The Duchess shared that, at the time, she met a mother and her 15-year-old daughter who were surveying the damage to their home. Referring to the teen, Markle said: “This mom had found a couple of things, (and) as I was talking to her, I turned around and I saw this young woman.”

Meghan continued: “She lives there and her mom shared something with me, and said that when they came back to see their house for the first time, which is as we were meeting them, that all she’d been looking for in her home was the T-shirt from the Billie Eilish concert that she had just gone to.”

She continued:

“And of course they now see their home and the washing machine, their dryer, are ash. They’re not there anymore.”

The Duchess of Sussex did not know Eilish personally but considered who might know her among her contacts. She shared:

“And so I said, ‘I don’t know Billie Eilish. But I’m going to figure out how to get you this shirt.’ So I thought of everybody that I knew and I made a voice note and I was like, ‘Please, can someone get this voice note to Billie Eilish? Here’s what I’m asking.’”

In the video, she showed what Eilish sent:

“You guys, I don’t even know what all this stuff means but it’s signed for her.”

After joking that she felt “really old,” Markle sent a “huge thank you (to) Billie Eilish,” and continued: “This is going to mean so much to her.”

The Duchess also thanked Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and his wife, model Behati Prinsloo, for getting her message “over the line.” She concluded:

“To everyone who is showing up for people in big and small ways to get through what’s happened in California. Just thank you so much. I’m going to go and email her mom now. Just wanted to share that with you guys.”

In the caption, the Duchess wrote:

“Let’s keep supporting those affected by the California wildfires. Thanks to everyone who made this possible but most importantly, thank you to our first responders who are the community’s real heroes. As ever, Meghan.”
