Meghan Markle Swears By Royal Skin-Care Methods

Meghan Markle's skin is a popular topic of discussion and a subject of envy.

Sarah Chapman, a facialist who works with Meghan Markle, shares some of her skin-care tips and tricks.

Having beautiful skin will never go out of style. Meghan Markle is a great example of this statement. The Duchess of Sussex is fresh-faced every time she goes out but since stepping down as a senior royal, her skin seems even more glowing than ever before. Coincidence?

Sarah Chapman, a facialist, is the woman (partly) responsible for Meghan's tiptop complexion. In an article by Harper's Bazaar, she shares her tips and tricks to get your skin to a Meghan-level of radiance. The first tip she gives is to "master the cleanse". 

"I like to cleanse with balmy formulas because they have enough slip that I can comfortably do an intense massage," Sarah says. "Here’s your at-home version: Make loose fists, and literally knead your knuckles into the muscles. Then drum your fingertips on your face until you’re flushed. You’re getting the blood flow going, which helps oxygenate and bring nutrients to the cells."

Beyond the surface of the skin, Sarah says what you eat influences your skin's condition. If one of her clients has skin issues, she digs deeper into their eating habits.

"I had a girl who came to me with acne, and once we finished talking I realized that between lattes and smoothies she was ingesting two pints of milk a day," she shares. "While scientists debate the connection between dairy and blemishes, I think there’s a link. Once a client eliminates milk, their skin improves. For everyone, I recommend omega oil supplements (for strong, flexible skin) and probiotics (essential for gut health, which is key to good skin)."

Dermatologists and other skin-care specialists never seem to shut up about the importance of wearing sunscreen. Sarah is no exception to this. She emphasizes that sun damage is not exclusive to the skin on our face, but everywhere else.

"When we do facials we treat the neck, chest, and shoulders because we consider them part of the face. They’re all susceptible to the same sort of damage. Think about the way your chest is angled to the sun—you can catch a lot of UV damage unexpectedly. The same goes for the back of the neck and even the ears. As an aesthetician, I see these areas close-up all the time, and sometimes they do look old. It’s a small detail that can age you," she explained.
