Meghan Criticized For Wearing One Of Princess Diana’s Most Treasured Pieces Of Jewelry

May 14, 2024 by apost team

Princess Diana was universally loved by not only the British public but also people the world over. She used her influence to enact good, spending much of her time campaigning for humanitarian causes that improved the lives of others. She sat with sick people, helping to break the stigma of the then-new disease, HIV/AIDS. These are the reasons she became known as the "People's Princess" — she was a shining beacon of light in the royal family.

It's been over 25 years since she tragically passed away, but whenever we see photos of her, it's still incredibly moving. This is a testament to how much the public adored her, and she's still often talked about and even featured in the media, whether for her charitable deeds or impeccable fashion sense.

Her taste in jewelry over the years has also been incredible, and after her death, many of her pieces were passed down.

"I would like you to allocate all my jewelry to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it," Diana wrote in her will. "I leave the exact division of the jewelry to your discretion."

Diana’s daughter-in-law, Meghan, also has good taste in choosing what jewelry she wants to wear and own. Like Diana, Meghan has been criticized widely by people, especially those inside the royal family.

In May 2024, Meghan visited Nigeria and wore a cross necklace, which was one of the late princess’s jewelry pieces. However, people on social media have blasted Meghan for honoring Diana by wearing it.

Over the years, both Kate Middleton and Meghan have been seen wearing jewelry that once belonged to Diana. Prince William even proposed to Kate with his late mother’s engagement ring. Prince Harry chose to keep the ring after their mother's death but offered it to William in 2010 when William revealed he was planning on proposing,  according to The Sun.

Meghan also wore some pieces that once belonged to Diana. Bustle reported that Diana was first spotted wearing a famous gold and sapphire bracelet in 1990 when she visited the Lord Gage Centre for Old People in East London. After this, she was also seen wearing the bracelet on numerous occasions. The bangle, or open cuff bracelet, is made of gold and has blue stones and diamonds on either side.

Meghan was first seen wearing the gold bangle to the Smart Works clothing launch, embodying her late mother-in-law's charitable spirit. After this, she was seen wearing the bracelet quite a few times.

The Duchess of Sussex has also been spotted wearing several pairs of earrings that belonged to her husband’s late mother. Diana had a few signature pieces with diamonds studded into them. Meghan's engagement ring featured one diamond from Botswana, a special place for the couple as they'd done a lot of charity work there, and two from Harry’s mother, Diana’s personal collection.

There are gorgeous jewels required for big events and tiny but tasteful jewels needed for everyday wear, such as Diana's butterfly earrings. They were and still are perfect for ordinary days.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has been seen wearing another beautiful piece, an aquamarine ring that once belonged to Princess Diana. According to Vanity Fair, Meghan wore the ring while attending the 2022 Ripple of Hope Awards with Harry in December 2022. The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization hosted the event.

Meghan and Harry were awarded for speaking “against racism within the royal family.” They were also recognized for raising money for victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, using their platform Archewell to support the Black Lives Matter movement, and advancing gender equality through the Archetypes podcast.

The Duchess of Sussex was dressed to the nines at the notable event, wearing a white off-the-shoulder dress with diamond earrings. Her look was completed with the stunning aquamarine ring that once belonged to her mother-in-law. According to People, Meghan had previously worn it as her "something blue” at her wedding in 2018.

According to Vogue, Diana originally commissioned the piece from Asprey using an aquamarine that her friend Lucia Flecha de Lima had gifted to her. People reported that Diana wore the stone as a “replacement” for her sapphire and diamond engagement ring following her divorce from then-Prince Charles. The ring is valued at $90,000. However, according to the Royal Watcher Blog, Diana only publicly wore the aquamarine ring twice before her passing in August 1997.

Diana’s memory has continued to live on through her children and their wives, whether it be by spreading her important messages or through her stunning pieces of jewelry. Diana will certainly never be forgotten.

Ever since Harry and Meghan's controversial decision to step back as senior members of the royal family, their way of life and actions have been widely and intensely scrutinized by many.

One talking point on social media was the couple’s move to relaunch their website, using their official titles, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. People slammed the couple for using their official titles after seemingly disassociating themselves from the monarchy.

In light of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis, Prince Harry returned to the United Kingdom to be at his father’s side while Meghan opted to stay in California.

“Meghan made the decision that it was best to stay home with the children, and maybe she feels that this is something Harry has got to do alone,” King Charles’ former butler, Grant Harrold, told The New York Post. “It’s his father. She’s aware of the close relationship and probably encouraged him to come over.”

Meanwhile, Meghan earned praise and adoration from people on social media when her close friend, photographer Misan Harriman, shared a new portrait of her in early 2024. The photo was posted to announce Lemonada Media’s partnership with Meghan's “Archetypes” podcast. Many gushed over Meghan’s “absolutely gorgeous” photo.

“She looks truly happy and relaxed. That says a lot about how you can put someone at ease. Wonderful photo!” one fan commented, while another described the actress as looking “truly happy and relaxed."

Some fans also noted how she embodied her late mother-in-law Diana in the portrait by donning an accessory — her watch — widely associated with her.

"Such a natural beauty. I'm so happy to see Diana's Cartier tank always on her hand. This was Diana's most personal loved piece and I'm glad Meghan has it,” a fan pointed out

In the past, it was reported that Meghan had worn pieces of jewelry despite the perceived defiant meaning it sent to the British royal family.

In May 2023, Meghan wore a Clarity Retreat necklace during a hike after not being invited to King Charles III’s coronation. According to the website, the necklace was worn to “protect your peace” and “let go of anything that's not working” – alluding to her strained relationship with the British royal family.

After Prince Harry visited the United Kingdom for a few days around May 10, 2024, to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Invictus Games, he secretly reunited with Meghan at London’s Heathrow Airport and arrived in Nigeria in time for their visit.

The Daily Mail reported that Meghan met Harry at the airport’s VIP Windsor suite and boarded a commercial British Airways flight to Abuja, Nigeria.

When the couple arrived in Nigeria, Meghan’s fashion choice was lauded by many as it highlighted her grace, elegance and simplicity. Many have also noticed the similarities between her and the late Princess Diana in terms of their fashion choices.

Meghan wore a gold collar necklace when she arrived in the country, which was reminiscent of Diana’s gold collar necklace during her visit to the same country in 1990. Like Diana, Meghan wore the same necklace although she changed outfits at the end of the day.

However, it wasn’t the gold collar necklace that had everyone on social media fuming. It was the cross necklace that Meghan wore on the following day.

Meghan honored the late Princess Diana by wearing her delicate diamond cross on a gold chain on May 11, 2024, when she and Harry received the military families in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to People, the jewelry was a recent gift from Harry to Meghan that once belonged to the late princess. Meghan wore a simple linen column dress and swept her hair up, allowing the accessory to shine. Apart from their impactful visit, Meghan’s 43% Nigerian heritage was honored during the ceremony.

While the tribute was certainly lovely, not many people were happy with Meghan’s decision to bring in Princess Diana on their trip to Nigeria. In reference to the cross necklace, one person wrote, "She doesn't deserve it."

“I think our beautiful Princess Diana would have been mortified if she had lived, to see the way the manipulative, duplicitous Meghan carries on and conducts her life,” another person wrote on social media.

“Sorry Megan you will never be half the woman Princess Diana was, unlike you she will always be remembered from (sic) all humanitarian work she did, she put her heart and soul into to and still took time with her boys,” one criticized

"Princess Diana must be shuddering in her grave (that) this narcissist woman (is) wearing her Jewellery...no way would Harry of ended up marrying her if his mother was still alive not in a million years,” a fourth pointed out

Amid the sharp criticisms peppered throughout social media, some people were still happy to see Meghan being celebrated.

“I believe Diana would absolutely love to see her daughter-in-law wearing her jewellery. It's sweet that both boys have gifted their wives pieces of her collection,” a fan commented

“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all be as kind as Princess Diana’s heart and just say uplifting comments on this post or just move on🫶🏻💝,” another suggested.
