A Huge Milestone

Since 2010, Gerber has been running a contest to find their new "spokesbaby." In all that time, they have never had a baby with Down syndrome before.

From Instagram To Stardom

Lucas's mother Cortney didn't think much of the Gerber contest. It was a relative who saw the company ad recruiting babies. After their suggestion, Cortney posted a picture of Lucas on Instagram, using the contest hashtag. Not long afterwards, Cortney and Jason found out that Lucas won the contest. There were an incredible 140,000 submissions!

The Importance Of Representation

The CEO and president of Gerber, Bill Partyka, acknowledges that this decision goes beyond choosing an adorable kid as the face of their company. Choosing Lucas shows that every baby can truly become a Gerber baby. It represents the special needs community and is inclusive.

Advocating For Change

Changing the Face of Beauty is a non-profit dedicated to advocating for greater representation of disabled individuals in the media. Its founder and president, Katie Driscoll, is excited about Lucas but acknowledges that companies still have a long way to go. She hopes to see more special needs kids appear in ad campaigns.

What a cute kid! The Apost Team can't wait to see Lucas in the Gerber campaign. What did you think about this beautiful story?
