Max Von Sydow – Star Of ‘The Exorcist’ And ‘The Seventh Seal’ – Has Passed Away Aged 90

Swedish-born actor Max Van Sydow, best known for his roles in ‘The Exorcist’, ‘The Seventh Seal’, and ‘Game of Thrones’ has died at 90 years old. 

His family announced that the actor passed away on Sunday

Max Van Sydow had an impressive acting career starring in an array of films in both Hollywood and the Swedish showbusiness industry. 

According to the BBC, Van Sydow’s family announced today "with a broken heart and infinite sadness" that the actor passed away on Sunday at the age of 90.

The Swedish-born actor has played roles in many high-profile films including ‘The Seventh Seal’, ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Exorcist’. 

He was also nominated for an Oscar twice throughout his career – once for ‘Best Actor’ for his role in Pelle the Conqueror in 1988 and a second time in 2011 for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ in the film ‘Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close’.

Van Sydow starred acting in his native Sweden, where he starred in eleven films with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. The actor was then approached by Hollywood when he declined the role of Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music.

The actor finally had his breakthrough across the Atlantic in 1965, when he portrayed Jesus Christ in The Greatest Story Ever Told.
