Matthew McConaughey Still Writes Poems For His Wife After 13 Years Together

Matthew McConaughey is known for his roles as the romantic lead in big Hollywood movies. It might be a surprise to learn the actor is kind of a romantic in real life too. His marriage with Camila Alves seems to be one that is based on true love.

McConaughey claims that his approach to maintaining the romance in his marriage is due to a low-key approach, and he doesn't like to buy extravagant gifts for his wife. 

"I don’t have a certain thing I buy her," McConaughey told  TODAY. "An earnest handwritten note, that she knows I sat down and took some time and has some poetry to it, that’s worth more than whatever retail I paid for something."

The couple met in 2006 and were in love from the first moment they laid eyes on each other reports E. McConaughey reported that he was so stricken with Camila that he felt she was an other-worldly being. She possessed qualities that he didn't completely understand, and they made a big impression on him. He described her as graceful, beautiful and possessing a strong sense of identity.

He reported to Playboy Magazine that he is faithful to his wife to a point that is selfish. He believes he is under a spell around her, and he wants to remain that way. The couple was married in 2012, which occurred six years after they began dating each other. Matthew and Camila have three children, Levi, 10, Livingston, 5, and Vida, 8.

Camila reported to People Magazine that she was not the type of girl in childhood who dreamed of marriage. She even told her parents that she might never get married. She didn't realize how important the wedding would feel to her until the day actually came. She became enraptured in the emotion of the event.

The couple makes sure that they're able to spend adequate time with their children. They suspend the children's curfew on Friday nights, and the kids are treated to movies and pizza that they are allowed to enjoy all night if they please. Camila reported that the Friday night festivities often become a dance party that goes late until the early morning. Matthew revealed that he has a particular liking for swing music.

The kids are also allowed to sleep in their parents' bed on this special night of the week. Matthew admits that the kids are often up until 2 a.m. on Fridays, and there is usually cooking and music for the family festivities. When it comes to disciplining their kids, the couple is able to mix steadfast rules into the laid-back feeling that Matthew McConaughey is famous for. He said to People that he is grateful to have three healthy children, and they are very strong in their individuality, which is likely attributed to their hereditary link to Camila.

McConaughey reported that he and his wife blend different styles of parenting, but they have similar moral values. From watching his kids grow up, Matthew believes that the moral characteristics of people seem to be primarily inherited. McConaughey believes that the role of discipline and moral guidance in parenting can only go so far. A child's innate sense of morality will always be at the core of who they are.
