A former child pageant winner, a highly successful actor, a father of three, a college professor, and now, an author — is there anything that Matthew McConaughey cannot do?

McConaughey Joined The Faculty At The University of Texas, Austin

In case you were not aware: Yes, McConaughey became a professor at The University of Texas (UT) at Austin back in August 2019. In a press release, the school revealed that McConaughey will be joining their faculty after he guest-taught classes for the last four years.

“He began co-teaching the Script to Screen film production class with faculty member and director Scott Rice,” the release read. “He developed the course’s curriculum, which provides a unique, behind-the-scenes view of each stage of a film’s production.”

“It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school,” McConaughey said in the release. “Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them, making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art — no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus.” McConaughey graduated with a degree in film from UT back in 1993.

College Dean Jay Bernhardt also said in the release, “Matthew cares deeply for our school and our students, and we are thrilled that he shares his time and talent to help prepare the next generation of media leaders and innovators.”

He Is The Author Of His Own Memoir "Greenlights"

In October 2020, McConaughey published his very first book. His memoir is entitled “Greenlights." Of his inspiration for the book, he says:

“I found stories I experienced, lessons I learned and forgot, poems, prayers, prescriptions, beliefs about what matters, some great photographs, and a whole bunch of bumper stickers. I found a reliable theme, an approach to living that gave me more satisfaction, at the time, and still: If you know how, and when, to deal with life’s challenges — how to get relative with the inevitable—you can enjoy a state of success I call “catching greenlights.”

He Is Married To Camila Alves, A Brazillian Model

The couple first met at a bar where McConaughey spotted Camila Alves from across the room. He told Southern Living that with one look at her he said to himself, “Get your a** out of the chair and go get her.”

The lovebirds got hitched in 2012 and have three children together. McConaughey spoke about raising his kids with Alves during an interview on the Today show.

“My wife and I have a similar moral bottom line. When kids try to good cop, bad cop you, we’re on the same page. If they try to play us, we give the same answer. We also have a lot of fun. We can shape them, but they are who they are."

Like many A-list celebrities, McConaughey seldom posts pictures of his children on his social media accounts, preferring instead to keep them out of the public eye. Together with his wife, his mini-mes do sometimes accompany him to media events like at the Texas Medal Of Arts Awards in Austin.

McConaughey looked like a total family man when he stepped out on the red carpet with Alves, his 87-year-old mother, and his kids: Levi, Vida, and Livingston. The award-winning actor was being honored at the event for his skills on the big screen, but we think the real honorable thing is how great a father he seems to be.

Vida Makes An Unexpected Cameo

Last month, the 51-year-old actor sat down for an interview with author Amy Jo Martin for the 220th episode of her podcast “Why Not Now?”, where they discussed his book, “Greenlights”, never-before-heard stories from the actor, his plans for the future, and other things in between. Toward the end of the nearly 40-minute interview, his daughter, Vida, makes a surprise appearance as she sweetly helps her dad with one tricky question.

“What is one lesson that you find yourself learning over and over?” Martin asks McConaughey, who ponders over the question for a little bit before saying, “We learn lessons — we know they're right, we know they're true, [but] activating them and having them instinctively become a habit is a different thing." He added that he talks about this in his new book, “Greenlights," too.

But he did not seem satisfied with his own answer, and so decides to engage the help of his only daughter, 10-year-old Vida, who had been hanging out in the same room as her dad, listening to the interview out of sight. McConaughey calls her over: “Vida, what is one lesson that I keep having to learn over and over?” Sitting sweetly on her dad’s lap, Vida gives an answer that is beyond her years,

“Trusting.”

"Trusting, I guess, when you correct us," she says. "A lot of times you'll correct us and then you'll come back and you explain why you corrected us, but usually, we're just like...We got it the first time?" McConaughey says. "Yeah," she replies. Vida then takes off from her dad’s lap but hangs around in the background sitting on the floor while he answers a couple more of Martin's questions.

It was a very sweet moment between the father and daughter! It is no wonder why Martin released the video footage of the podcast to her YouTube channel. So far, only two of Martin’s "Why Not Now?" podcasts have had their videos posted to her YouTube channel. McConaughey’s is one of them while the other one is with singer Jason Mraz. You can watch the interview for yourself to see just how sweet Vida and her dad are together!

Tell us what you think of Vida’s answer in the comments, and be sure to pass this story on to fellow McConaughey fans! If you’ve read "Greenlights," be sure to give us your review for it, too.
