Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves McConaughey have been one of Hollywood’s most admired couples for more than a decade. The Oscar-winning actor and the model, entrepreneur, and philanthropist first met in 2006 at a nightclub in Los Angeles.

“She showed up, and she moved right to left in front of my eyes across that club,” Matthew recalled in a previous interview with People. “It was as if she was floating. And I did not say, ‘Who is that?’ I said, ‘What is that?’ And then introduced myself.”

The connection was instant, and Matthew has said that since that night, he has not wanted to spend time with any other woman. The couple married in 2012 after a six-month engagement and built a life together that includes three children: Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and Livingston McConaughey, 12. Their partnership has endured the pressures of fame and parenting, and they continue to balance family life with professional commitments.

“Since that evening, I have not wanted to spend time with any other woman. We have a love that we never question,” he told People then.

In September 2025, Matthew opened up about the small, intentional choices that help keep their relationship strong. In a conversation with Fox News Digital, he shared an insight that might surprise many couples.

Even with a busy household and the demands of parenting teenagers, Matthew has found that simple adjustments in his and his wife, Camila’s, daily lives, such as their sleep habits, can make a significant difference in their connection. His advice clearly came from experience and a clear understanding of the importance of maintaining intimacy and prioritizing the marriage, even amid the chaos of day-to-day life.

One tip Matthew shared concerned the size of the bed he shared with his wife.

“I wake up one morning … I’m looking over there, and Camila’s like a football field away, man. Then you go to bed at night, like, you want to snuggle up and … ‘Well, we’ve got to cover you up. Come about 12 feet, and I’ll come 12 feet,’” he explained to Fox News Digital. He added, “You’re like, man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a b----.”

Instead, Matthew and Camila moved to a smaller queen-size bed, where they sleep shoulder to shoulder.

“I’m telling you, it’s good for your marriage,” he said.

Beyond the bedroom, Matthew emphasized the importance of maintaining a romantic connection while parenting. “You’ve got kids, so you don’t… you’re spending as much time being a good mother and father of them, but you also gotta make sure – and I can do a better job of this – of going, ‘No, this is our time,’” he said.

He went on, “You can’t 100% live with the kids as a parent. You gotta... remember that one of the best examples you can give the kids of how to treat a woman or a man or how to someone they end up falling in love with down the line is how you treat their mother and how the mother treats the father.”
