Matted And Frightened Husky Hides In A Corner Refusing To Move

Jul 23, 2019 by apost team

A small, manged husky sat cowering in the corner of a rundown yard. The lawn belongs to a woman in Harbin, a town in China. She takes in stray dogs... currently, she is allowing about 2,000 pups to stay on her property. These dogs are strays, and many were originally bound for slaughter in one of the dogmeat producers of China.

This dog, however, was not doing well. She was tiny and scared. Thin, with thick mats of hair covering her body. The owner of the property regularly works with the Harbin Slaughter House Survivors Animal Rescue (HSHS), a small but busy charity in the area. She allows HSHS workers on her property to take in the most ill of the dogs that roam about her yard. This husky was a perfect candidate.

When they approached her, the dog did very little, except cower. She huddled in the corner avoiding a world that had continually hurt her. Finally, after a lot of coaxing (and some treats), the mangy pup let the rescuers pick her up and bring her to the veterinarian. She was quiet and slept in her rescuer's arms the entire ride.

The vet guessed the dog, named Harriet, was 8 months old. They looked her over, shaved her mats off, and gave her a bath. She was as sweet as can be, and quickly took to being cared for. Within several weeks she had gotten much healthier. She shed her shyness and fears, finally realizing no one would hurt her anymore.

Rosee Vallee, a woman who lives in Canada, saw Harriet's picture online and immediately fell in love. Soon after, Harriet was boarding an airliner with a volunteer to take the long journey to San Francisco, where she would meet her new mom.

Harriet's mom gave her a new name: Bailey. She lives happily with her three pup siblings in Canada, where her mom takes her everywhere. They have flown together, been canoeing together, and been on road trips together.

HSHS works very hard and has served hundreds of dogs just like Bailey over the years. But, they need your help! Whether you are looking to give a sweet dog their forever home or to support their work, you can check out their website. We are wishing Bailey the happiest and healthiest of lives!
