Matt Damon Reveals His Four Daughters Are Avid Travelers & ‘Love’ Seeing The World With Him

For Matt Damon, fatherhood has become the role that defines every other chapter of his life. The Oscar winner, born in 1970, often speaks more about the quiet shock of watching his children grow up faster than he ever imagined than about box-office milestones.

Damon and his wife, Luciana Barroso, married in 2005 and built a family that has largely stayed out of the spotlight despite his global fame.

Together, they share daughters Isabella, 20, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15, and Damon is also a devoted stepfather to Alexia, 27, Luciana’s eldest. Over the years, Damon has been intentional about keeping his home life grounded, often describing parenting as humbling and clarifying. Rather than offering advice, Damon seems content simply bearing witness to his daughters becoming themselves. Luckily, part of that growth includes a major shared interest: traveling.

Due to the nature of his job, Damon often jet-sets around the world, as he did while filming Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” In the film, to be released in July 2026, Damon plays Odysseus, the legendary king of Ithaca and the central protagonist of Homer’s “The Odyssey,” on which the film is based. He stars alongside other big Hollywood names, including Anne Hathaway, who plays his long-suffering wife, Penelope, and Tom Holland, who plays his son. Holland’s real-life wife Zendaya, meanwhile, stars as the Greek god of wisdom, Athena. Charlize Theron and Robert Pattinson round out the cast as Circe and Antinuous, respectively.

The Odyssey was filmed almost entirely on location across several countries to capture the scale and realism of Homer’s epic. Among the countries in which the film was shot were Morocco, Italy, Greece, Scotland and Iceland. This worldwide approach is typical of Nolan’s filmmaking style — he prefers real locations and practical photography over CGI whenever possible.

In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Damon reflected on how quickly time seems to pass once you are a parent, especially as children inch toward adulthood.

“I don’t think we swap a lot of fatherly advice,” Damon said of conversations with longtime friend Ben Affleck, who is also raising teenagers. “I mean, we do talk about it, but it’s more in the sense of just marveling at how quickly it’s passing.”

That realization has hit Damon hard in recent years:

“It’s like suddenly your kid’s going to college, and it’s at a blistering pace,” capturing a feeling many parents quietly share.

While keeping to a filming schedule for major productions such as “The Odyssey” can be grueling, Damon has found a silver lining that not only he can enjoy.

“We are seasoned travelers in our family, just because I work all over the world. So my kids love to travel,” the 55-year-old said.

He added that he and his daughters will have even more opportunities to see the world when the film’s promotional campaign gets underway.

“My decompression already happened,” he explained, adding, “But we’re going to Europe, we’re going to do premieres in Mumbai, Beijing and Seoul. It’s a big push.”

However, he revealed he wasn’t the only one who would be packing his bags.

“I'll bring my family for a lot of it, so they can see some of these places,” Damon said.
